Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Welder II for our Norfolk, VA office, starting around June 2nd. The successful candidate will join our Fleet Services Group, working on ship repair, modernization, and Alteration Installation Team (AIT) projects.

Responsibilities include:
  • Joining, fabricating, and repairing metal and other weldable materials using appropriate techniques.
  • Performing various welding processes for pipes, structures, and fittings related to shipboard hydraulic, pneumatic, and water systems.
  • Fabricating and installing fixtures and jigs for welding alignments.
  • Interpreting blueprints, diagrams, and schematics to determine welding processes.
  • Selecting appropriate welding materials and procedures to ensure quality operations per TWD standards.
  • Inspecting welds for structural integrity and compliance with NAVSEA, ABS, and AWS standards.
  • Leading technical project teams, scheduling, reporting, and briefing customers and management.
  • Performing duties outside of specialty areas as needed.
  • Experience with SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, ship fitting, and oxy-acetylene and propane gas cutting torches.
  • Welding various pipe, plate, and bar materials in multiple positions.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma, trade, or vocational degree.
  • 5-10 years experience in ship repair and HM&E systems installation.
  • Ability to read ship installation drawings and specifications (preferred).
  • Ability to obtain a SECRET clearance and base access.
  • Ability to lift at least 30 lbs., work in extreme environments, and climb ladders.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
  • U.S. citizenship due to export control regulations.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and possession of basic and some advanced welding tools.
Physical Requirements:
  • Visit ship and rig sites, both onshore and offshore.
  • Use PPE and work in various physical conditions, including confined spaces and high noise levels.
  • Visual acuity and other sensory requirements for inspecting marine components and operating tools.
  • Operate machinery and heavy equipment as needed.
