Job summary

Great Dane is seeking welders for 1st and 2nd shifts to perform general welding duties across the plant. Responsibilities include setting up welding equipment, welding on various surfaces and positions, and ensuring pieces meet specifications.

The role demands the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for long periods, and work in a safety‑driven environment with potential overtime. Competitive hourly wages apply, with night shift premium.

Responsibilities

• Perform general welding on flat, curved, or vertical surfaces.
• Set welding machine parameters (gas, volts, amps, wire speed).
• Weld in multiple positions, including overhead.
• Load raw materials into welding machines and manage scraps.
• Inspect welded pieces for conformance to specifications.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area.

• Wages from $22.25/hour to $27.00/hour

THE DETAILS

• Monday-Thursday
• 1st Shift 6:00am-4:30pm
• 2nd Shift 4:30PM to 3:00AM
• Available overtime

THE ROLE

The Position: Performing general welding assignments for any/all areas of the plant to support the production goals. Duties include but are not limited to those described below.

What You’ll Do

• Ability to weld on a flat, curved, or vertical surface.
• Ability to set a welding machine, including the gas, volts, amps, and wire speed.
• Ability to weld in a variety of positions, particularly overhead.
• Be able to make minor adjustments to the welding equipment as needed.
• Properly load raw materials, parts, etc., into the welding machine.
• Removes work pieces and scrap from machines.
• Files, grinds, or scrapes sharp edges, burrs, scales, or rust from work pieces.
• Hammers out bent or warped spots in metal.
• Sorts, marks, tags finished work.
• Transports material or signal crane operator to move materials.
• Compares work piece with straight edge or template to verify conformance to specifications.
• Cleans work area, machines, tools, and equipment.
• Performs other routine duties as needed.

Your Skills And Abilities (required Qualifications)

• Employee must be able to use pneumatic power tools and equipment of all types.
• Employee must be able to accurately read a tape measure.
• Employee must be able to perform and remember how to perform multiple tasks from day to day.
• Employee must be able to perform the physical requirements listed in that section of this job description.
• Employee must look for potential cost savings in the work process, help keep scrap and waste to a minimum and be efficient in the use of all supplies.
• The employee must perform the assigned tasks in a way they meet or exceed the required production level.
• The quantity of units, parts, assemblies and/or installations expected will vary with the process performed, customer specification, volume, and location.
• Welder must inspect his/her product as instructed by standard operating procedures.

Physical/Mental Requirements

• Ability to do heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds) multiple times daily in an 8-to-12-hour shift.
• Ability to stand and move about on concrete 8- 12 hours a day. Ability to see, walk, reach, grasp, stoop, kneel, twist, crawl, carry, climb (including ladders), work overhead, push, and pull.
• Ability to work in a constant state of alertness.
• Ability to maneuver large parts and assemblies (up to 180 pounds) by pushing, pulling, and flipping them into place.

• Ability to accurately read a tape measure and other measuring tools.
• Ability to work with hands and to work in mechanically oriented situations following supervisor’s instruction.

• Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English.
