Job summary

Great Dane in Huntsville, AL is seeking an experienced welder to join our 2nd shift team. You will perform general welding assignments across the plant, supporting production goals and maintaining the highest safety standards in the industry.

Responsibilities include setting welding parameters, welding on flat, curved, or vertical surfaces, overhead welding, loading materials, inspecting finished pieces, and keeping work areas clean. Strong reading of blueprints and measuring tools is essential.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to read a tape measure accurately.
  • Ability to weld on flat, curved, or vertical surfaces and overhead.
  • Able to set welding machine parameters (gas, volts, amps, wire speed).
  • Physically capable of heavy lifting up to 50 pounds daily.
  • Maintain production pace and adhere to safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Weld on flat, curved, and vertical surfaces, including overhead positions.
  • Set welding machine parameters and adjust as needed.
  • Load raw materials and parts into welding equipment and unload finished work.
  • Inspect completed welds and verify conformance to specifications.
  • Keep work area clean and report maintenance needs; assist with other duties as assigned.

The Position: Performing general welding assignments for any/all areas of the plant to support the production goals. Duties include but are not limited to those described below.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Ability to weld on a flat, curved, or vertical surface.
  • Ability to set a welding machine, including the gas, volts, amps, and wire speed.
  • Ability to weld in a variety of positions, particularly overhead.
  • Be able to make minor adjustments to the welding equipment as needed.
  • Properly load raw materials, parts, etc., into the welding machine.
  • Removes work pieces and scrap from machines.
  • Files, grinds, or scrapes sharp edges, burrs, scales, or rust from work pieces.
  • Hammers out bent or warped spots in metal.
  • Sorts, marks, tags finished work.
  • Transports material or signal crane operator to move materials.
  • Compares work piece with straight edge or template to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Cleans work area, machines, tools, and equipment.
  • Performs other routine duties as needed.
Qualifications

YOUR SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS)

  • Employee must be able to use pneumatic power tools and equipment of all types.
  • Employee must be able to accurately read a tape measure.
  • Employee must be able to perform and remember how to perform multiple tasks from day to day.
  • Employee must be able to perform the physical requirements listed in that section of this job description.
  • Employee must look for potential cost savings in the work process, help keep scrap and waste to a minimum and be efficient in the use of all supplies.
  • The employee must perform the assigned tasks in a way they meet or exceed the required production level.
  • The quantity of units, parts, assemblies and/or installations expected will vary with the process performed, customer specification, volume, and location.
  • Welder must inspect his/her product as instructed by standard operating procedures.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to do heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds) multiple times daily in an 8-to-12-hour shift.
  • Ability to stand and move about on concrete 8- 12 hours a day. Ability to see, walk, reach, grasp, stoop, kneel, twist, crawl, carry, climb (including ladders), work overhead, push, and pull.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness.
  • Ability to maneuver large parts and assemblies (up to 180 pounds) by pushing, pulling, and flipping them into place.

  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure and other measuring tools.
  • Ability to work with hands and to work in mechanically oriented situations following supervisor's instruction.
  • Aptitude to learn and retain latest information.

  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure and other measuring tools.
  • Ability to work with hands and to work in mechanically oriented situations following supervisor's instruction.
