Job summary

Spherion Staffing, LLC seeks a dedicated Welder Helper to support daily fabrication, welding, and manufacturing operations. You will prepare metal components, assist certified welders, and help maintain a safe, organized shop environment.

Working hours are 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM in a heavy industrial setting in Texas. Applicants should have basic welding exposure, ability to handle tools, and the stamina to work 8–12 hour shifts in non-climate-controlled conditions.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in heavy manufacturing, industrial fabrication, or construction.
  • Operate manual and power tools (grinders, chop saws, pneumatic tools) safely.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings or basic weld symbols for layout dimensions.
  • Must be able to stand 8–12 hours in a non-climate-controlled shop and lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare raw steel, pipe, and aluminum parts for welding using hand and power tools.
  • Assist welders with layout, positioning, and clamping of heavy components.
  • Perform basic tack-welding for final structural welding.
  • Move and handle heavy workpieces with cranes, hoists, and forklifts.

Job Summary

Dedicated and detail-oriented Welder Helper with hands-on experience supporting daily fabrication, welding, and manufacturing operations. Skilled in preparing metal components, operating material handling equipment, maintaining torch and arc welding gear, and ensuring precise fit-ups. Proven track record of adhering strictly to shop safety protocols, maintaining clean work areas, and assisting certified welders to maximize shop productivity and project turnaround times in fast-paced industrial environments.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare raw steel, pipe, and aluminum parts for welding by grinding, drilling, scraping, and cutting to exact dimensions using industrial hand and power tools.
  • Assist welders in the layout, positioning, alignment, and clamping of heavy industrial components.
  • Perform basic tack-welding to secure pieces for final structural welding.
  • Safely load, unload, and move heavy workpieces, raw steel, and finished components across the shop floor using overhead cranes, hoists, and forklifts.
  • Set up welding machines, change out welding wire spools, replace shielding gas tanks, and maintain oxy-acetylene torch equipment under supervisor guidance.
  • Perform visual post-weld inspections, cleaning finished welds by removing slag, spatter, and scale using wire brushes and grinders to ensure components meet strict quality standards.
  • Maintain a highly organized, clean, and risk‑free workstation in accordance with plant safety guidelines. Properly store specialized tools and safety gear.
  • Continuously wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)?including welding shields, respirator masks, ear protection, and steel‑toed boots?and immediately report any shop hazards.

Skills
  • Prior exposure to basic MIG, TIG, or Flux‑Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) processes, or completion of/enrollment in a vocational welding program.
  • Previous experience or active certifications for operating overhead bridge cranes, hoists, and industrial forklifts.
  • Foundational ability to look at mechanical drawings, structural blueprints, or basic weld symbols and identify layout dimensions.

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a heavy manufacturing, industrial fabrication shop, or construction environment.
  • Demonstrated experience safely operating manual and power tools, specifically heavy angle grinders, chop saws, and pneumatic tools.
  • Ability to stand, bend, and kneel continuously throughout an 8- to 12-hour shift in a non‑climate‑controlled shop environment. Must be able to comfortably lift, pull, or push up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to follow strict verbal and written technical instructions, safety protocols, and manufacturing routing steps.
  • Comfort using basic arithmetic and standard tape measures to accurately verify material lengths and structural alignment.
