Job summary

County of Los Angeles is seeking a Welder-Fitter to fabricate and weld piping systems for Department facilities, inspect and repair piping components, and plan installation projects across county worksites.

The role requires four years of welding experience (journey-level) and valid California welding certifications. Occasional travel to LA County sites is expected; on-call work may be required.

Qualifications

• Four years of experience in electric and gas welding, one year at journey-level performing welding related to pipe fitting.

Responsibilities

• Fabricates and welds piping systems for Department facilities.
• Inspects, repairs, and replaces existing piping systems and components, e.g., pumps and valves.
• Assists in planning and projecting timelines for new piping system installation projects and existing piping system repair projects.
• Works with building inspectors to ensure completed piping system installations and repairs comply with building codes and safety requirements.
• Installs and repairs building structures, e.g., structural beams.
• Keeps track of materials, tools, equipment, and supplies used in piping system and building installations and repairs.
• Obtains quotes and places orders for materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
• Oversees rigging work in movement and installation of equipment and machinery.
• Updates work orders with status of piping and building projects.
• Assists other trade personnel with their work.
• Travels to Department worksite across Los Angeles County.
