Job summary

McWane Plant and Industrial in Calera, AL is hiring an experienced Welder Fitter to join our fabrication and machining operation. You will analyze drawings, lay out parts, and weld to assemble machinery bases, sluice gates, and vessels according to specifications.

The role requires 2+ years weld/fitter experience, ability to read engineering drawings, and adherence to PPE and safety standards. Multiple shifts and a competitive hourly rate are offered.

Job Description

McWane Plant and Industrial in Calera Alabama is seekinganexperiencedWelder Fitterto join our Job Shop Fabrication and Machiningoperation.The Welder Fitter willanalyze engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.

Scope of Responsibilities

• 1st Responsibility - Ensuring personal safety and the safety of your team members.
• Assistssupervisors and managers inmaintaininga safe and healthy work environment.
• Wearsappropriate PPEwhich may include fall protection, respiratory protection, hearing protection, foot, hand,headand eye protection.
• Responsible for cleanliness of the assigned work area as well asmaintaininga safe and clean work environment.
• Proactively promotes the McWane Way principles.
• Develops templates and other work aids to hold and align parts.
• Lay out, fit, and fabricate metal components to assemble structural forms, such as machinery bases, sluice gates, and vessels, using knowledge of welding techniques and details from blueprints.
• Lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications, using straightedge, combination square, calipers, and ruler etc.
• Tack-welds or welds components and assemblies, using electric, gas, arc, or other welding equipment.
• Cutsworkpiece using plasma, gas arc, powered saws, hand shears, or chipping knife.
• Observes tests on welded surfaces, such as hydrostatic, x-ray, and dimension tolerance to evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications.
• Job duties and responsibilities may be changed at leadership discretion
• While performing the duties of this job, the employeeis regularly required tostand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle or feel objects,toolsor controls.
• The employeefrequentlyis required totalk and hear and occasionallyrequiredtoreach withhands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds,frequentlylift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depthperceptionand the ability to adjust focusanddetermineand distinguish color.

Basic Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Minimum two (2) years' experience as a welder or welder/fitter.
• Ability to read engineering drawings.
• Knowledge of mechanical assemblies and testing.

Position Requirements

• Standing, walking, stooping, balancing, kneeling, reaching, and sitting are some of the physical requirements.
• Must be able to meet andadherephysical requirements as well as adhere to wearing theappropriate PPE(steel toed boots, safety glasses, hearingprotectionand mask).
• Will berequiredto work in the following conditions: heat, cold, noise, and vibration.
• Must be able to work in dust and fumes.
• Must have the ability to operateforkliftor overhead crane.
• Will berequiredto work overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands.
• Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises.
• Must have some knowledge of industrial tools, their uses, and maintenance.

Additional Information

1st Shift M-F 6:30 am - 3:00 pm or 2nd Shift (4-10 hrs) 2:30 pm - 12:30 am.

Hourly Rate: $22.00-$25.00
