Job summary

Ziegler CAT in Altoona, IA is hiring a full-time Welder to perform repairs and fabricate heavy construction and mining equipment. Your work drives serviceability on our equipment fleet. Schedule is 3pm–1:30am Monday–Thursday.

Qualifications

• 2-year technical college degree in welding or related field; or high school diploma/GED and 2 years of welding experience.
• Ability to operate welding and fabrication equipment as listed.
• Ability to read dimensional blueprints – preferred but not required.
• Safety sensitive role requiring pre-employment drug test.

Responsibilities

• Perform welding and fabrication.
• Maintain equipment and process settings (electrodes, oiling/greasing, tooling).
• Document work orders in a timely manner to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Work safely following company policies and standards.
• Collaborate with other technicians on repairs and troubleshooting.
• Participate in ongoing training to enhance mechanical skills and product knowledge.

Ziegler CAT has an opening for a full-time, Welder to perform repairs and fabricate heavy construction and mining equipment at our Altoona branch. 3pm-1:30am Monday-Thursday.

The pay range for this position is $27.00 to $45.00

Starting wage is dependent on skills, experience, education and location. Pay range may vary by 10% depending upon the applicant’s location. Along with competitive pay, full time positions are benefits eligible which includes:

Responsibilities

• Perform welding and fabrication
• Maintain equipment such as dressing welding electrodes, oiling/greasing, machine settings, changing of tooling, and other adjustments as necessary
• Document work orders in a complete and timely manner to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction
• Work safely at all times, following company policies, procedures and standards
• Work collaboratively and assist other technicians as needed regarding troubleshooting repairs
• Participate in ongoing training to enhance mechanical skills and grow product knowledge

Qualifications

• 2-year technical college degree/certificate in welding or related field; or high school diploma/GED and 2 years of comparable welding experience
• Able to operate spot welder, arc welder, plasma TIG welder, MIG welder, cutting torch, power grinder, power sander, hand-tools, bandsaw, drills, temporary fixturing devices, and other metal-fabrication equipment
• Able to read dimensional blueprints – preferred but not required
• Experience with gauging and measuring preferred
• Ability to write and communicate effectively and interact with supervisors, customers and team members
• Basic computer skills to document work orders and utilize online diagnostic systems
• Own mechanic tool set – preferred but not required
• Ability to maintain a safe and clean work environment
• This role is deemed safety sensitive and requires the ability to successfully complete a pre-employment drug test

Minimum Physical Requirements

• Push/pull up to 50 lbs
• Lift/carry up to 60 lbs
• Lift bulky objects
• Standing, walking, using hands, talking, hearing, neck rotation, trunk rotation, stair climbing, ladder climbing, repetitive bending, kneeling, sustained squat, forward reaching, overhead reaching, supine overhead reaching, crawling, bin lift, high steps, fingering/grasping – able to use bolt box.
• Working Conditions may be indoor and/or outdoor. Noise level may be loud at times.
