Job summary

PIPE MOVERS, INC. seeks a Welder/Fabricator/Saw Operator to weld, cut, fabricate and paint metal products. You will read blueprints and adjust processes, set up saws, and ensure accuracy with measurement tools.

The role requires safe operation of welding and cutting equipment and strong teamwork. The position involves shipyard-style fabrication in a warehouse setting, with emphasis on quality control, equipment maintenance and adherence to procedures.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent three-year program.
  • Comfortable with MIG welding, plasma cutting, fitting, painting & priming, torch cutting, pipe welding and stick welding.
  • Forklift experience is preferred.
  • Ability to read blueprints, drawings and specifications.
  • Strong math and measurement reading skills for setting stops and guides.

Responsibilities

  • Plans work order procedures and gathers tools/materials per job instructions.
  • Welds, cuts, fabricates, and paints metal and products using flame, torch, and machine cutting.
  • Reads blueprints/drawings and makes adjustments for each job.
  • Sets up saw machine and adjusts stops/guides to specified lengths.
  • Operates saw machine and monitors quality for defects or warping.
  • Maintains and cleans equipment and work area daily.
  • Reports discrepancies and notifies supervisor of faulty equipment.
  • Cooperates with supervisors and coworkers; performs other duties as assigned.

Welder/Fabricator/Saw Operator - Job Description
Job Title: Welder/Fabricator/Saw Operator
Report to: Warehouse Manager

The Welder/Fabricator/Saw Operator will weld, cut, fabricate, and paint metal and products by using flame-cutting, hand welding equipment, torch cutting, and machine cutting. In this role, you will read blueprints or technical drawings and make the adjustments for each job. You need to be able to read a tape measure and perform basic math to set stops and guides to the specified length of each job.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Plans details of work order procedures; gathers required tools and materials based on instructions and specifications provided for the job.
  • Repairs and fabricates various items and equipment using cutting, burning, and welding techniques and equipment.
  • Monitors the welding, burning, and fitting process to ensure parts are not overheated or damaged by warping, distortion, expansion, or shrinkage.
  • Prepares, assembles, and tacks weld parts and surfaces to be welded.
  • Maintains, organizes, and cleans equipment and the work area daily.
  • Prepare for a yearly inventory of equipment, tools and other items located in the welding/fabrication area.
  • Notifies supervisor when faulty equipment or defective materials are discovered.
  • Set up the saw machine, making adjustments for each job
  • Set stops or guides to specified lengths
  • Operate the saw machine, keeping an eye out for any defects or issues
  • Use measurement tools to ensure accuracy
  • Help transport finished pieces
  • Maintain saw and keep work area clean
  • Report any discrepancies
  • Communicate and cooperate with supervisors and coworkers
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Follow quality service standards and comply with procedures, rules, and regulations
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Thorough understanding of machines and tools used in welding and fabrication including designs, uses, maintenance and repair.
  • Must participate in training for all new equipment required to perform job.
  • Understanding design techniques, principles, and tools necessary for the precise production of technical plans, drawings, models and blueprints.
  • Excellent ability to read and listen to assignments given in a variety of forms.
  • Thorough understanding of mathematics as related to welding assignments.
Education and Experience:
  • Completion of a formal apprenticeship OR successful completion of an in-company, three-year training program required.
  • Comfortable with MIG welding, plasma cutting, fitting, painting & priming, hand tools, power tools, sheet metal experience, torch cutting, pipe welding, stick welding, etc.
  • Forklift experience preferred
  • Must be 25 years of age of older due to insurability requirements for equipment use.
  • Proven working experience working in a warehouse setting.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Dress and perform job duties in a professional manner.
  • Follow company procedures and employee manual.
  • Familiar with modern warehousing practices and methods.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to weld components that are vertical, flat, or overhead.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Comfortable standing for long periods
  • Able to work outdoors and around loud machinery
  • Able to work on uneven surfaces
  • Must be able to climb, bend, walk, balance, and carry materials safely
  • Experience operating a band and chop saw (1-3 years preferred)
  • Forklift experience a plus
