Responsibilities include welding repairs per overhaul manuals using TIG, MIG, Stick, and other methods, plus operating supporting equipment like drill presses, grit blasters, and ovens. Strong safety awareness and good English communication are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with welding experience or completed two-year welder training and two years welding experience.
• Certified Welder per AWS D17 or equivalent for relevant alloys used at Segers Aero.
• Ability to read wiring diagrams and manufacturing prints for weld work.

Responsibilities

• Weld repair components per overhaul manual using TIG, MIG, Stick, Braze Rod, Spot Weld, and Silver Soldier.
• Operate drill press, grit blast equipment, ovens, and related tools to support production.
• Heat-treat parts using ovens as part of the process.
• Review travelers and welding prints for direction; repair and restore parts as needed.
• Move gas cylinders safely; follow safety policies and procedures.

Welder / Fabricator

Wage Range: $25 - $35/hr based on experience

Segers Aero Corporation located in Fairhope, AL is seeking a Welder/Fabricator to join our team. We offer a competitive benefits package and a 9/80 work schedule that includes every other Friday off.

Purpose of Position: To prepare and repair various components using standard welding principles and in accordance with applicable maintenance manuals.

Essential Functions: (must be able to perform these functions, with or without a reasonable accommodation).

• Weld Repair components in accordance with overhaul manual using a variety of welding methods including TIG, MIG, Stick, Braze Rod, Spot Weld, Silver Soldier.
• Operates drill press, grit blast machine, ovens and other associated equipment in the support of the production schedule
• Uses oven to heat-treat parts regularly
• Reviews traveler and reads welding prints for direction
• Repair and/or restore parts using welding equipment/torches
• Retrieves and moves gas cylinders from holding area using a dolly as necessary

• Travels as required
• Confers with manager/lead to recommend changes such as: equipment utilization, production methods and procedures to increase efficiency of department and promote improvement
• Attends all safety and health training, as required, in a timely manner
• Works when scheduled and complies with company attendance policy
• Works overtime as needed
• Observes and practices all safety procedures and personal policies (e.g. Safety-glasses, ear plugs, face shields etc.)

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: (these are required to enable job holder to perform the essential functions of the job)

• Must be proficient using a variety of hand tools such as hand grinders, die grinders for assigned maintenance tasks
• Must be knowledgeable in welding techniques, (oxygen-acetylene, electric arc, and TIG), tools and equipment
• Must have sills in the fabrication, joining and repair of a variety of metal objects, equipment, fixtures and structures
• Must be proficient in using a variety of hand tools, special tools, and GSE required to perform assigned maintenance tasks
• Must be able to work in a relatively loud environment.
• Must be able to maintain an effective working relationship with, and among co-workers and supervisors
• Must be able to work with little or no supervision and to take initiative
• Must be able to use applied knowledge to formulate positive solutions to problem situations
• Must be able to apply common sense
• Must be able to effectively read, write and communicate in English
• Must be proficient in company specific software and Microsoft Office Word and Excel
• Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide, using fractions and decimals; compute percentages, area, circumference, volume, ratios and rates and interpret graphs
• Must be able to comply with OSHA requirements and standards to properly wear all applicable PPE
• Must have knowledge of precision measuring tools/equipment (and electrical)
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly and more, with assistance occasionally
• Must be able to see within normal range of vision with or without corrective lenses
• Must be able to hear running machinery
• Must be able to use hands, wrists, and fingers repetitively
• Must have exceptional eye-hand coordination
• Must regularly be able to reach overhead
• Must regularly be able to squat, bend, twist and stand
• Must be able to walk around regularly using steps occasionally
• Ability to provide verifications of US citizenship or permanent residency to satisfy ITAR/EAR restrictions

Experience and Education Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED and four (4) years of welding experience or completion of an accredited two-year welder’s training program and two years of welding experience required;
• Certified Welder in accordance with AWSD17 or equivalent in various alloy used at Segers Aero Corporation.
• Must pass a criminal background check

• Must pass a DOT FAA pre‑employment drug screen and comply with all FAA regulations.
• Position is considered safety‑sensitive in accordance with DOT and FAA regulations and as such, subject to drug and alcohol testing per FAA's regulations.

Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. Noise is generally loud.
