Job summary

Qualifications

• Read and interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, work orders, weld symbols, and specifications to plan fabrication work.

• Produce welds in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions with proper penetration and appearance.

FABRICATION WELDER

POSITION PURPOSE

The Fabrication Welder produces safe, accurate, and structurally sound metal components and assemblies for Goodfellow equipment and projects. This position reads fabrication drawings, prepares materials, performs MIG and TIG welding, inspects completed work, and contributes to an organized and productive shop.

RESPONSIBILITIES

PERFORM WELDING AND FABRICATION

• Read and interpret dimensional drawings, blueprints, work orders, weld symbols, and specifications to plan fabrication work.
• Fit, tack, weld, and assemble metal components and structures using MIG and TIG welding processes as required.
• Produce welds in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions while maintaining proper penetration, profile, and appearance.
• Measure, mark, position, clamp, and align components to specified dimensions, tolerances, and configurations before welding.
• Use grinders, saws, torches, fixtures, material-handling equipment, and other fabrication tools safely and correctly.

MAINTAIN QUALITY AND WORKMANSHIP

• Inspect welds and completed assemblies for dimensional accuracy, structural soundness, workmanship, and conformance to drawings and specifications.
• Identify defects, distortion, incorrect fit-up, or drawing discrepancies and correct or report issues before work proceeds.
• Complete assigned work accurately and efficiently while minimizing scrap, rework, and avoidable material waste.
• Protect finished work and properly stage completed components for the next production step.

WORK SAFELY AND MAINTAIN EQUIPMENT

• Follow all Goodfellow safety requirements, approved welding procedures, hot-work practices, and equipment operating instructions.
• Wear required personal protective equipment, including welding hood, gloves, safety footwear, eye and hearing protection, and other task-specific protection.
• Inspect welding machines, leads, torches, regulators, ventilation, tools, and work areas before use and report unsafe conditions promptly.
• Monitor equipment settings, operation, and temperature and make authorized adjustments appropriate to the material and process.
• Maintain clean, orderly work areas and safely store welding consumables, compressed-gas cylinders, tools, and materials.

SUPPORT THE PRODUCTION TEAM

• Coordinate with supervisors, fitters, fabricators, machine operators, and other team members to meet production priorities and delivery commitments.
• Communicate material shortages, equipment concerns, quality issues, and production delays early enough for corrective action.
• Participate in training, cross-training, continuous-improvement activities, and other assigned fabrication or shop work.
