Job summary

Vulcan Materials Company is seeking a skilled welder/repair technician to fabricate and repair mobile equipment components in diverse positions. You will help maintain tools and work areas, document repairs, and operate forklifts or man lifts as needed while supporting welding operations across different environments.

The role requires basic literacy, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to read weld blueprints, with overtime and outdoor work possible depending on project demands.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; training or experience acceptable.
  • Entry-level welding skills; any aggregation of welding experience is preferred.
  • Ability to understand oral and written technical instructions and read blueprints.
  • Welding equipment operation and ability to join metal components.

Job description

Essential Functions
  • Ability to weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Ability to work in high and/or precarious places or cramped work spaces that require awkward positions.
  • Good manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods; grip, climb, reach, shovel, squat, crawl, pull, push, bend, and lift up to 45 pounds.
  • Basic literacy and math skills to read technical manuals, record repairs, operate welding equipment, and perform other tasks.
  • Perform preventative maintenance repairs following established procedures.
  • Prepare the welding area and weld joints.
  • Read and interpret welding blueprints.
  • Maintain daily reports as required by Company regulations.
  • Monitor the welding process and make adjustments as needed.
  • May be required to operate forklift or man lift.
  • Assist in maintaining and organizing welding equipment and work area.
  • Comply with all safety, health, environmental, and other Company policies, procedures, and requirements.
  • Learn to use a variety of hand and power tools, including a cutting torch and welding equipment, to rebuild and fabricate parts.

  • Skilled in operating welding equipment to join metal components.
  • Excellent driving skills and ability to maintain satisfactory customer and public relations during duties.
  • Good mechanical skills; familiarity with raw materials and production processes.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills.
  • Physical ability to lift and move heavy objects.
  • Comprehensive mechanical and welding skills.
Other Requirements
  • Travel to other facilities may be required.
  • Must be willing to work overtime, flexible hours, and weekends as demanded by customer and company needs.
  • Work outdoors and be exposed to varying and extreme weather conditions (heat, wet, cold, etc.).
  • Physical ability to lift and move heavy objects.
