Job summary

Delta Star Inc. is seeking a motivated Welder GP to support welding and fabrication activities in a safety-forward environment. You will assist with preparation, assembly, and basic welding tasks while learning blueprint reading and equipment operation.

You will help with material preparation, documentation, and ensure welding operations meet quality standards, maintaining a clean and safe workspace on site. Training for crane operations is provided.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; background check and physical may be required.
  • Willingness to learn welding processes and safety practices.
  • Ability to read/learn blueprints with guidance.

Summary

Delta Star Inc. is seeking a motivated and safety-focused Welder GP to support welding and fabrication activities under the guidance of higher-level welders. If you’re eager to learn welding processes, develop mechanical skills, and contribute to high-quality transformer manufacturing, we want to hear from you!

What You’ll Do

As a Welder GP, you’ll assist welders with preparation, assembly, and basic welding support tasks while learning blueprint reading, equipment operation, and safe work practices. You’ll help prepare materials, support fabrication steps, and complete documentation to ensure welding operations run smoothly and meet quality standards.

A Day in the Life

Your day may include reading blueprints with guidance, preparing metal components, assisting with welding processes, cleaning spatter and slag, and staging materials for fabrication. You’ll operate grinders, saws, and other tools, help position components, and support crane operations under supervision. You’ll also complete documentation accurately and maintain a clean, safe workspace.

Specific Duties
  • Read blueprints, lay out materials, and assist in welding assigned components under direction.
  • Clean refuse, spatter, slag, and tack marks.
  • Use assigned stencil to properly label work.
  • Assist with welding processes using various welders and materials.
  • Support brazing and arc-welding tasks.
  • Operate an overhead crane under supervision; set up pendant and assist with rigging.
  • Perform tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding.
  • Complete DIRs and paperwork under higher-level guidance.
  • Assist repairing broken/cracked parts, filling holes, and building up worn areas.
  • Assist welding headers under supervision.
  • Identify required gases for basic welding operations.
  • Operate cold saw (band saw) and iron worker.
  • Position and clamp metal components prior to welding.
  • Assist with weld-cover installation on tanks.
  • Assist with rework and initial inspection activities.
What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for an enthusiastic learner with strong safety habits, basic mechanical aptitude, and an interest in welding and fabrication.

Position Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to pass background check, drug test, and physical.
  • Ability to operate an overhead crane (training provided).
  • Ability to read or learn to read blueprints.
Skills & Competencies
  • Ability to identify basic welding wire types.
  • Ability to perform weld tests and minor repairs with assistance.
  • Ability to read a Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) with support.
  • Must pass:
    • 3G FCAW test
    • 1G SMAW test with E7018
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
  • Strong safety awareness and PPE compliance.

  • Quality and accuracy of weld support tasks
  • Timeliness and completeness of DIR documentation
  • Progress in welding certification and skill development
