Job Summary
Lay out, fit, and weld metal components to assemble beds, frames, and small parts work orders.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Actively observe and promote BWise safety standards
- Analyze drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations
- Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies according to specifications using measuring tools
- Tack-weld or weld components and assemblies using welding equipment
- Monitor welding processes to prevent overheating, warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of materials
- Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisor
- Evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications
- Inspect grooves, angles, or gap allowances with appropriate measuring instruments
- Remove rough spots from workpieces using portable grinder or hand file
- Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions
- Ignite torch and adjust valves, amperage, or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc
- Perform other duties as assigned by Welding Supervisor
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Must be capable of standing for entire shift and sitting for extended periods
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs and demonstrate full range of motion for reaching, bending, kneeling, and stooping
- Exposed to extreme heat and cold depending on weather conditions
- Subject to dirt, dust, oil, welding fumes, electric shock, bright lights, UV radiation, burns, traffic hazards, and high noise levels
PPE Requirements
- Steel-toed or composite shoes
- Safety glasses
- Earplugs
- Gloves when handling materials
- Welding helmet (company does not provide helmet but provides all consumables including lenses)
- Grinding shield
- Welding sleeves
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Ability to read, write, count, and communicate effectively
- Appropriate training/certification in welding or demonstrated ability through on-the-job experience
- Understanding of metallurgy fundamentals related to welding
- Ability to read a tape measure
- Ability to interpret work instructions, prints, and specifications
