Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

Fabricates and welds a variety of metals from sheet stock to heavy plate. Welding processes utilized include Tig-Mig-stick and occasional brazing. Work is performed using basic hand tools, jigs, fixtures, and precision measuring devices.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Works on fixturing weldments and creates tooling as required for new jobs.
  2. Interprets blueprints, weld symbols, machining requirements, and datums to weld and create fixtures.
  3. Works along with manufacturing, quality control, and engineering to solve problems with weldments or prints.
  4. Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for creating a professional, safe, and clean environment by being at work on time, following company policies, wearing safety glasses in designated areas, maintaining a neat work area, and adhering to safety practices.
  5. Demonstrates commitment to teamwork by establishing effective relationships and networks with both managers/directors and workers, collaborating to accomplish shared goals.
  6. Abides by GSM Code of Ethics and Business Conduct standards and observes all U.S. and foreign laws and regulations.

Requirements

  1. Intermediate level knowledge of military specifications, AWS specifications, or other code specifications. May require assistance from other employees on spec interpretation.
  2. Understands basic manufacturing principles and straightening but may require additional assistance for problem solving with weldments.
  3. Understands workmanship requirements and can pass a workmanship test with additional training.
  4. Understands all weld symbols and can interpret dimensions on prints. May need additional help on GD&T/Datums.
  5. Knowledge of NDT and processes. Requires Level II for additional interpretation.
  6. Can fixture weldments using setups from previous orders as described in photos, procedures, and by higher-level welders.
  7. Can weld using all processes used by GSM (GTA, GMA & SMA).
  8. Can pass welder performance qualification test (welder samples) with minimal assistance.
  9. Can operate manual vertical milling machines, saws, grinders, and overhead cranes with minimal assistance.
