Responsibilities

• Perform welding, cutting, and fitting on marine vessels including tugboats, barges, and floating equipment under limited supervision.
• Utilize SMAW (stick) and FCAW (flux-core) welding processes; basic familiarity with GMAW (MIG) preferred.
• Assist in fitting and fabrication of steel components following blueprints, templates, and verbal instructions.
• Prepare work areas and materials by grinding, beveling, and cleaning prior to welding.
• Perform welds in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions as directed.
• Conduct basic inspections of welds for defects or irregularities and make necessary corrections.
• Maintain tools and welding equipment in safe working condition and report any maintenance needs promptly.
• Work closely with fitters, fabricators, and lead welders to complete assigned projects safely and efficiently.
• Adhere to company and OSHA safety policies, ensuring proper use of PPE and safe work practices at all times.
• Support senior welders and foremen in maintaining productivity and meeting project deadlines.

About the Role:

This position is ideal for welders with 1–3 years of experience who can work under the direction of a foreman or senior welder while demonstrating growing independence and leadership. The Welder C performs assigned tasks safely, efficiently, and with attention to detail, occasionally providing basic supervision or assistance to less experienced personnel.

• Must be able to wear required PPE including welding hood, respirator, gloves, and protective clothing.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to stand, crouch, climb, and bend for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs unassisted.
• Comfortable working in physically demanding environments such as confined spaces or high elevations.
• Must maintain sufficient vision and hand-eye coordination to perform precision welding tasks safely and effectively.
