Job summary

Altec in Duluth is seeking a skilled welder to fabricate, fit, and cut parts to blueprint standards using GMAW/FCAW welding. The role requires reading blueprints and schematics, precision in measurement, and adherence to APS initiatives.

You will train with cross-functional teams, maintain records, and uphold safety and quality policies while contributing to continuous improvement and Altec's core values.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend.
  • Basic computer usage knowledge.
  • Ability to read tape measures, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Welding degree/certificate or 2+ years welding experience; degree in process considered.
  • AWS D.1.1 weld certification within three months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate, fit, and cut to meet blueprint standards.
  • Perform GMAW and/or FCAW welding using arc and gas welding equipment.
  • Trim, file, grind, sand, deburr, buff and smooth surfaces with hand and portable tools.
  • Operate and understand all equipment in the work area (cell).
  • Lay out and mark dimensions using shop math and layout techniques.
  • Inspect assemblies/components for conformance to specifications.
  • Read and interpret schematics and work orders.
  • Use tape measures and specialty equipment; perform rework as required.
  • Maintain daily time records and required documentation.
  • Support APS initiatives; participate in continuous improvement events.
  • Move to other areas to support production; cross-train.
  • Train new/current associates; follow safety, environmental and quality policies.
  • Maintain work area and shop tools/equipment.
  • Show commitment to Altec core values.

Basic Qualifications

Applicants must:

  • be able to provide a high school diploma/GED.
  • have the ability to read, write, and comprehend.
  • have basic computer usage knowledge.
  • have the ability to read tape measures, blueprints, and schematics.
  • have a welding tech degree/certificate or 2+ years of applicable welding experience - may consider if degree in process.

Pay Transparency

Pay range: $26.03 - $29.22 + $1.50 shift differential. We are committed to fair and competitive pay for all associates based on their experience, education, and qualifications. Should the selected candidate meet the qualifications of a more experienced level in the career path, the job level may be adjusted.
