Job summary

Cornerstone Building Brands in Elizabethton, TN is hiring a MIG welder to join our production team. You will perform MIG welding on structural steel, read blueprints, and ensure quality in a fast-paced environment.

Shift is 5:00 pm to 3:30 am with overtime opportunities; pay includes $18.25 per hour plus $1.50 differential. Full-time positions with comprehensive benefits starting day one, safety focus, and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Minimum 1 year welding experience in a production environment or valid welding certification.
• Ability to read blueprints and drawings.
• Willingness to obtain/maintain CWB and AWS welding certifications.
• Experience with forklift and/or overhead crane operation is a plus.
• Comfort with power hand tools.
• Willingness to train and operate forklift and overhead crane.
• Ability to meet deadlines and work collaboratively in a team.
• Basic math and measurement instrument proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Engage in MIG weld processes on structural steel such as columns, rafters, beams and assemblies.
• Set up weld parameters and monitor bead quality per standards.
• Read tape measures and blueprints to shop drawings.
• Adjust welding technique as needed for holes, burns, and repairs.
• Train others in proper welding procedures per manufacturing procedures.
• Operate overhead crane and other lifting equipment.
• Maintain correct numerical and alphabetic sequences in work and stay focused on quality.
• Support continuous improvement practices in the work area.
• Communicate safely in a production environment.

JOB DETAILS

Pay Rate: $18.25 per hour, plus $1.50 differential

Work Schedule: Shift:5:00 pm - 3:30 am with opportunities for Overtime

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This position engages in the full scope of MIG weld processes on a variety of structural steel including (but not limited to) rigid frame columns, rafters, pipe, beam canopy rafters, small parts, clips, and special assemblies. Welded parts may include thin gauge, painted, or galvanized material. The ideal candidate will have a thorough knowledge of welding techniques and have a high attention to detail in a fast-paced production environment.

• Knows and understands all safety rules and precautions necessary for working in and about a manufacturing environment
• Responsible for coordination of welder settings, gun speed/travel and gas flow with observed condition of bead
• Ability to read a tape measure and blueprints to shop standard
• Ability to decide when adjustment or gun manipulation needs to be altered
• Ability to decide how much and what repairs to make for pin holes and burn through caused by auto welder
• Ability to train and teach proper welding procedures in accordance with manufacturing job procedures
• Ability to operate overhead crane and other lifting equipment
• Responsible for holding bead to specified shape, size and penetrations while maintain the quality of the product
• Responsible for keeping numerical and alphabetical sequences correct
• Maintains continuous improvement practices in work area
• While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
• A minimum of one (1) year of experience welding in a production environment or valid welding certification
• Ability to read blueprints and drawings
• Ability to obtain and maintain CWB and AWS welding certification in accordance with Cornerstone Building Brands welding procedures
• Experience with a forklift and/or overhead crane operation a plus
• Comfort and familiarity with power hand tools
• Willingness to train, certify, and operate forklift and overhead crane
• Ability to work effectively to meet deadlines
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
• General mathematical knowledge and proficiency with basic measuring instruments
