Job summary

Cornerstone Building Brands, Inc. is hiring for a MIG welder in Elizabethton, TN. The role centers on welding structural steel pieces, reading blueprints, and maintaining high quality in a fast-paced production environment.

The candidate should have 1+ year welding experience or certification, and be able to operate forklifts and overhead cranes as needed. Benefits include day-1 medical coverage and retirement plans.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
• A minimum of 1 year welding experience in production or valid welding certification.
• Ability to read blueprints/drawings.
• Ability to obtain and maintain CWB and AWS welding certification per Cornerstone procedures.
• Forklift/overhead crane operation is a plus.
• Familiarity with power hand tools.

Responsibilities

• Follow all safety rules in a manufacturing environment.
• Coordinate welder settings, gun speed/travel and gas flow with bead condition.
• Read tape measures and blueprints to shop standards.
• Adjust welding parameters as needed for quality and efficiency.
• Train and teach proper welding procedures per procedures.

• Maintain bead shape, size and penetration per specifications.
• Keep numerical/alphabetical sequences correct.
• Support continuous improvement in the work area.

Job Description

JOB DETAILS

Base Pay: $18.25 per hour

Duties and Responsibilities

This position engages in the full scope of MIG weld processes on a variety of structural steel including (but not limited to) rigid frame columns, rafters, pipe, beam canopy rafters, small parts, clips, and special assemblies. Welded parts may include thin gauge, painted, or galvanized material. The ideal candidate will have a thorough knowledge of welding techniques and have a high attention to detail in a fast-paced production environment.

• Knows and understands all safety rules and precautions necessary for working in and about a manufacturing environment
• Responsible for coordination of welder settings, gun speed/travel and gas flow with observed condition of bead
• Ability to read a tape measure and blue prints to shop standard
• Ability to decide when adjustment or gun manipulation needs to be altered
• Ability to decide how much and what repairs to make for pin holes and burn through caused by auto welder
• Ability to train and teach proper welding procedures in accordance with manufacturing job procedures
• Ability to operate overhead crane and other lifting equipment
• Responsible for holding bead to specified shape, size and penetrations while maintain the quality of the product
• Responsible for keeping numerical and alphabetical sequences correct
• Maintains continuous improvement practices in work area
• While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
• A minimum of one (1) year of experience welding in a production environment or valid welding certification
• Ability to read blueprints and drawings
• Ability to obtain and maintain CWB and AWS welding certification in accordance with Cornerstone Building Brands welding procedures
• Experience with a forklift and/or overhead crane operation a plus
• Comfort and familiarity with power hand tools
• Willingness to train, certify, and operate forklift and overhead crane
• Ability to work effectively to meet deadlines
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
• General mathematical knowledge and proficiency with basic measuring instruments
