Job summary

Alamo Group is seeking a skilled welder to fit and weld fabricated steel frames on the production floor, following blueprints and ANSI weld symbols. The role involves setting up tools, reading drawings, and ensuring weld quality while handling materials safely.

Job description

FUNCTION/POSITION DESCRIPTION: Under general supervision, fits and welds fabricated steel frames and/or metal parts on production floor using MIG welding equipment. Measures and marks locations for metal components on assembly table following blueprints. Verifies position of metal components in assembly using straight edge, combination square and rule.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: Sets-up work; adjusts and uses torch and plasma cutter and/or grinder properly in sta ndard/non-standard positions following Engineering drawings/blueprints.

Fit, tack and weld complete assemblies or fit and tack designated spots to secure work pieces for other welders. May use basic hand tools, such as tape measure, square, clamps, etc., to verify proper weld application and quality of weldments.

Have the knowledge and ability to weld and fabricate multiple units manufactured by Schwarze Industries, Inc.

Operate material handling equipment and operate safely within company Safety policies and procedures.

Complete product weldments to current acceptable standards in a timely manner. Check work to insure proper weld application and quality of weldments.

Troubleshooting and problem solving as required.

May assist with special projects.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • High school diploma or GED certificate preferred.
  • 1-2 years' experience working at SII, preferred or equivalent weld/fabrication environment.
  • Previous education or experience in mig welding required
  • Ability to read blueprints with ANSI weld symbols and specifications.
  • Ability to lift, push or pull 50+ lbs., on a regular basis for 8-10-hour shift(s.) Continuous standing.
  • Capable of performing standard measurements. Good shop math skills.
  • Understands basic procedure of voltage and amp settings for given requirements.
  • Able to work overtime and/or weekends as scheduled.

Must be physically able to wear welding hood and required appropriate personal protective equipment including welding helmet, gloves and protective apron and/or leather attire and steel toe shoes and fresh air/forced air respirator as required.
