Job summary

Schwarze Industries is seeking a Welder for its Huntsville, AL facility. Under general supervision, you will fit and weld fabricated steel frames and/or metal parts using MIG welding equipment and verify alignment against blueprints and ANSI weld symbols.

You will set up work, read engineering drawings, and complete weldments to stated standards. Overtime and weekend work may be required, and safety PPE must be worn at all times.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • 1–2 years' experience in mig welding or equivalent fabrication environment.
  • Ability to read blueprints with ANSI weld symbols and specifications.
  • Ability to lift and handle parts, and perform basic shop math.
  • Willingness to work overtime and/or weekends as required.
  • Good shop math skills and basic measurements.
  • Understand voltage/amp settings for given requirements.
  • Able to work overtime and/or weekends as scheduled.

Responsibilities

  • Sets-up work; adjusts and uses torch and plasma cutter and/or grinder per drawings.
  • Fit, tack and weld complete assemblies or designated spots to secure work pieces.
  • Read engineering drawings and verify welds against specifications.
  • Operate safely and follow company safety policies and procedures.
  • Troubleshooting and problem solving as required; assist with special projects.

Job description

FUNCTION/POSITION DESCRIPTION: Under general supervision, fits and welds fabricated steel frames and/or metal parts on production floor using MIG welding equipment. Measures and marks locations for metal components on assembly table following blueprints. Verifies position of metal components in assembly using straight edge, combination square and rule.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: Sets-up work; adjusts and uses torch and plasma cutter and/or grinder properly in sta ndard/non-standard positions following Engineering drawings/blueprints.

Fit, tack and weld complete assemblies or fit and tack designated spots to secure work pieces for other welders. May use basic hand tools, such as tape measure, square, clamps, etc., to verify proper weld application and quality of weldments.

Have the knowledge and ability to weld and fabricate multiple units manufactured by Schwarze Industries, Inc.

Operate material handling equipment and operate safely within company Safety policies and procedures.

Complete product weldments to current acceptable standards in a timely manner. Check work to insure proper weld application and quality of weldments.

Troubleshooting and problem solving as required.

May assist with special projects.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • High school diploma or GED certificate preferred.
  • 1-2 years' experience working at SII, preferred or equivalent weld/fabrication environment.
  • Previous education or experience in mig welding required
  • Ability to read blueprints with ANSI weld symbols and specifications.
  • Ability to lift, push or pull 50+ lbs., on a regular basis for 8-10-hour shift(s.) Continuous standing.
  • Capable of performing standard measurements. Good shop math skills.
  • Understands basic procedure of voltage and amp settings for given requirements.
  • Able to work overtime and/or weekends as scheduled.

Must be physically able to wear welding hood and required appropriate personal protective equipment including welding helmet, gloves and protective apron and/or leather attire and steel toe shoes and fresh air/forced air respirator as required.
