Job summary

Scion Steel in Warren, MI is seeking a skilled welder with 2+ years of experience in steel fabrication. You will read blueprints, set up welding equipment, and inspect welds to ensure quality, while adhering to safety protocols.

The role requires the ability to read tape measures, interpret build prints, and operate plasma cutting tools and angle grinders. Forklift and crane experience is a plus for moving and positioning heavy steel parts.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years hands-on experience in steel fabrication.
  • AWS D1.1 certification or equivalent.
  • Experience operating forklifts and overhead cranes.
  • Ability to read tape measure and build prints.
  • Proficient with plasma cutting and angle grinders.

Job description

Experience: GMAW and Fabrication: 2+ years

Reports to: Plant Manager

We value the vital contributions from our welders, whose expertise and dedication are instrumental in driving our company's growth and enhancing our production capacity. Their skilled craftsmanship ensures the quality and reliability of our products. We are seeking a skilled, detail-oriented welder with a strong understanding of metal fabrication processes. This position reports directly to the Plant Manager.

Responsibilities include:
  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and specifications to determine welding requirements.
  • Set up and operate welding equipment
  • Inspect completed welds for accuracy and quality, ensuring compliance with specifications.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and wear appropriate protective gear at all times.
  • Collaborate with team members to complete projects efficiently and on schedule.
  • Prepare materials by cutting, grinding, and cleaning metal surfaces.
  • Perform welding operations in various positions (flat, vertical, overhead) as needed
  • Operate heavy machinery and equipment, such as cranes and forklifts, to move and position steel.
Qualifications:
  • At least 2 years hands-on experience working in a steel fabrication facility.
  • Welding certificate in AWS D1.1 or equivalent standard.
  • Experience operating forklifts and overhead cranes.
  • Ability to read tape measure.
  • Capable of reading and understanding build prints.
  • Proficient in use of hand plasma and angle grinder.
Schedule:
  • 8-10 hour shift
  • Morning Shift: 6:00am - 4:30pm Evening shift: 4:00pm - 2:30am
  • Monday to Friday, sometimes Saturday.
Ability to commute/relocate:
  • Warren, MI 48089: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40-56 per week
