Responsibilities

• Welds metal components to fabricate or repair products such as machine parts, plant equipment, mobile homes, motors, and generators, following layouts, blueprints, or work orders, using brazing and various arc and gas welding techniques.
• Performs welding, thermal cutting, grinding, repairs, and fitting of metal parts, including disassembly and reassembly of components.
• Locates and repairs cracks in industrial engine cylinder heads using inspection equipment and gas torches; may perform repairs only and must pass employer performance tests or certification standards.
• Uses manual welding processes including electric, acetylene, inert gas shielded welding, MIG, TIG, and silver brazing to work with metals like aluminum, steel, and armor plate.
• Performs welding in various positions: flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead.
• Includes pre-heating, bead welding, tack welding, flame cutting, and heat treating processes.
• Reads and interprets blueprints, sketches, and diagrams; applies welding standards and knowledge of metal reactions.
• Welds structures of varying sizes, shapes, and thicknesses, including dissimilar metals like copper to steel.
• Positions and clamps work using jigs and templates for precise fabrication and repair.
• Adjusts welding machines for penetration, fusion, and material thickness requirements.
• Works on concrete floors or in equipment being repaired, with safety precautions against burns, electric shock, falls, fumes, and gases.

Qualifications

• Must be a US citizen, able to pass a background check for government clearance, and pre-employment drug testing.
• Must pass physical exams and be capable of working any shift.
• Certified or able to obtain AWS standards certifications (D17.1, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW) within 120 days of employment.
• Ability to read blueprints and work in awkward or confined spaces.

Physical Demands:

• Handling objects up to 50 pounds.
• Comfortable working in environments with dirt, grease, noise, fumes, and requiring protective gear.
