ASRC Federal Advanced Research is currently seeking a Welder I to support the US ARMY Ground Vehicle Systems Center in Warren, Michigan.

ASRC Federal Advanced Research (AFAR) is a premier provider of technical and mission-oriented services supporting federal government agencies. Our team of management and technical personnel brings real-world experience to meet the growing demand for innovative solutions to complex military ground vehicle challenges.

Overview

The Welder will assist in joining metals, supporting the design, development, and fabrication of prototype vehicle structures and platforms using drawings from sketches to full production drawings to produce prototypes.

Duties

  • Perform welding, mechanics, fabrication, sheet metal, assembly, analysis, and troubleshooting in vehicle or platform assembly or modification.
  • Assist in welding ferrous and non-ferrous materials of varying thicknesses using electric, acetylene, and inert gas shielded welding processes: GMAW, GTAW, and SMAW.
  • Use cutting processes such as Oxy/Acetylene, Plasma, and Carbon Arc Gouging; perform welds in flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead positions.
  • Weld various armored steel and metal alloys.
  • Pass onsite tests to ensure qualification per AWS standards and Ground Combat Vehicle Welding Codes for steel and aluminum.
  • Possess extensive fabrication and welding knowledge for creating vehicle hull structures, turrets, armor cabs, and modifications for new technologies.
  • Apply inspection procedures to ensure conformance with engineering documentation.
  • Collaborate on developing workpieces from limited information, including reverse engineering.
  • Capable of standing all day and lifting 45 lbs.
  • Follow all safety, regulatory, and environmental standards IAW ISO 14001.

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent, technical school certificate, or completion of an apprenticeship leading to Journeyman status, with certifications in joining materials and a minimum of 8 years related experience.

Clearance

  • Must be a US citizen.
  • Active DoD Confidential clearance or ability to obtain one.
