Job summary

Waltonen Engineering, Inc. is seeking a skilled welder to join our team in Michigan. You will report to the Independence Tooling Operations Manager and complete welding for automotive, aerospace, defense, and energy projects, using GTAW/TIG and GMAW/MIG processes.

Candidates should have at least 2 years TIG welding and fabrication experience, be able to read prints and GD&T, work safely, and obtain operator certifications such as GTAW Aluminum and GMAW Steel.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of TIG welding and fabrication experience.
• Basic understanding of prints and GD&T.
• Experience performing equipment maintenance.
• Experience using power tools.
• Knowledge of basic safety practices.
• Ability to lift 25+ pounds.
• Willing to work overtime as needed and adapt to fluctuating workloads.
• Strong analytical skills and problem-solving orientation.
• Dependable in completing tasks and meeting deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Report to Independence Tooling Operations Manager.
• Complete all welding requirements for various projects, mainly for automotive, aerospace, defense, and energy sector.
• Analyze prints and CAD to properly fit up, tack, and weld for GTAW/TIG and GMAW/MIG processes.
• Be comfortable welding both aluminum and steel.
• Fabricate components by using equipment to clean, prepare, cut, burn, and weld pieces; set up and measure assemblies.
• Understand various techniques, best practices, and what supplies and gases to use as needed.
• Be able to clean, prepare, cut, measure, and keep workspace orderly for each project.
• Complete in-process and pre-weld inspection checklist.
• Create and/or follow required process documents—WPS, PQR, Weld maps and charts, weld continuity log, etc.
• Maintain a safe work environment by following procedures; comply with legal regulations.
• Be prepared to have some of your work inspected by a CWI and complete required repairs.
• Be prepared to earn operator certifications for at least GTAW Aluminum and GMAW Steel, with other certifications as required.
• Be prepared to use a HiLo and crane; instruction and certification will be supplied.

Job Responsibilities

• Create and/or follow required process documents- welding procedure specification (WPS), Procedure Qualification Record (PQR), Weld maps and charts, weld continuity log, etc

• Be prepared to earn operator certifications for at least GTAW Aluminum and GMAW Steel, with other certifications as required
