Job summary

A leading food producer in the poultry industry, based on the South Coast, is seeking a qualified Welder to join its Engineering Team. This hands-on role focuses on maintaining, repairing, and fabricating critical processing machinery to maximise production and minimise downtime.

The successful candidate will have MIG, TIG and Arc welding expertise, read technical drawings and adhere to strict food safety standards in a fast-paced 24/7 environment.

Qualifications

• Red Seal Trade Certificate in Welding or Boilermaking is essential/preferred.
• Experience MIG, TIG and Arc welding.
• Experience with stainless steel, especially in food/poultry manufacturing.
• Experience with mild steel fabrication.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and WPS.
• Ability to fabricate and install machinery components, pipework, structural steel.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving abilities.
• Sound understanding of health and safety protocols.
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced production environment.
• Willingness to work shifts and standby in a 24/7 environment.
• Valid driver's license and own transport.

Responsibilities

• Maintenance & Repairs: Maintain and repair food processing machinery, hydraulic and conveyor systems.
• Fabrication & Installation: Fabricate and install stainless steel and mild steel equipment.
• Fault Finding & Diagnostics: Diagnose faults and rectify issues through welding and fabrication.
• Welding: Perform MIG, TIG, and Arc welding on various materials.
• Technical Drawings: Read drawings, blueprints, and WPS to ensure accurate fabrication.
• Food Industry Standards: Ensure fabrication and maintenance meet food safety and quality standards.
• Health & Safety: Follow health and safety procedures and OHS requirements.
• Shift & Standby: Work shifts, weekends, standby duties and emergency calls.

This is a hands-on, high-intensity role within a fast-paced poultry processing environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and fabricating critical processing machinery, equipment, and infrastructure to maximise production output and minimise downtime.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance & Repairs: Perform urgent and routine maintenance and repairs on food processing machinery, hydraulic systems, conveyor systems, and other plant equipment to maximise production output and minimise downtime.

Fabrication & Installation: Fabricate, install, modify, and repair stainless steel and mild steel equipment, including pipework, chutes, cages, platforms, and structural steel.

Fault Finding & Diagnostics: Diagnose faults and failures on machinery, equipment, and structural components and rectify issues through welding, cutting, fabrication, and repair.

Welding: Perform high-quality MIG, TIG, and Arc welding on a range of materials and equipment.

Technical Drawings: Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, specifications, and Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) to ensure accurate fabrication and installation.

Food Industry Standards: Ensure all fabrication, repairs, and maintenance activities meet required food safety, hygiene, quality, and engineering standards.

Health & Safety: Adhere to all company health and safety procedures and applicable Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.

Shift & Standby: Be willing to work shifts, weekends, standby duties, and emergency call-outs as required in a 24/7 production environment.

Requirements and Skills

Red Seal Trade Certificate in Welding or Boilermaking is essential/preferred.

Proven experience in MIG, TIG, and Arc welding .

Strong experience working with stainless steel , preferably within the food or poultry manufacturing industry.

Experience with mild steel fabrication .

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and WPS .

Ability to fabricate and install machinery components, pipework, chutes, structural steel, and related equipment.

Strong mechanical aptitude with good fault-finding and problem-solving abilities.

Sound understanding of health and safety protocols .

Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced production environment.

Reliable, disciplined, and able to work as part of a team.

Willingness to work shifts and standby in a 24/7 operational environment.

Valid driver's licence and own reliable transport.
