DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operates safety equipment and uses safe work habits while performing job function.
  • Responsible to manage how much time he uses on a project and the time of others that might be in his crew.
  • Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Ignites torches or starts power supplies and strikes arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded, completing electrical circuits.
  • Detects faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notifies supervisors.
  • Clamps, holds, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind or bolts component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.
  • Operates manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, and flux-cored arc, plasma arc, and shielded metal arc, resistance welding, and submerged arc welding.
  • Monitors the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts of warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of materials.
  • Examines work pieces for defects and measures work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.
  • Recognizes, set up, and operates hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.
  • Will lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers.
  • Needs to be able to understand written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
  • Responsible to perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
  • Must also be able to speak to others to convey information effectively so that the job can be completed in the manner it should be.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Needs knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, maintenance, design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Self-motivated and able to meet deadlines
  • Able to analyze and work thru situations
  • Ability to run heavy machinery and lifts
  • Maintain quality standards
  • Knows basic mathematics to solve problems pertaining to welding functions.
  • Must determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
  • Needs to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to.
  • Certificates, licenses and registrations required: Certified Welder (CW), Welding, Cutting, Brazing Safety Technician (WST)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Has the ability to keep hand and arm steady while moving the arm or while holding the hand in one position.
  • Has the ability to see details at close range while doing his job function.
  • Has the ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.
  • Has the ability to quickly move the hand, the hand together with the arm, or two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • Has the ability to make precise coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and /or move more than 20 pounds
