Welder Position at Carter Machinery Company

We are currently offering a $1,500 sign-on bonus for new Welder hires, payable after 90 days of employment.

Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and Washington D.C., is hiring a Welder in Chesapeake, Virginia. The Welder will assist with fabricating new components, welding, retrofitting, and repairing metals and other weldable materials using appropriate techniques. Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, with at least one year of experience in welding and fabricating on heavy equipment using portable machines. Experience with precision instruments (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, etc.) is preferred.

Requirements
  1. Skills in welding, boring, fabricating, designing, salvaging, and building-up equipment and components, including gas, stick, MIG, and TIG welding. Ability to learn to use precision instruments is required.
  2. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  3. Ability to operate, drive, and maneuver construction equipment for repairs.
  4. Technical training or knowledge in welding and machinery.
  5. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  6. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  7. Strong organizational, analytical, and attention to detail skills.
  8. Effective time management skills with a track record of meeting deadlines.
  9. Mechanical and design aptitude, with knowledge of parts, components, and equipment.
  10. Proficiency in computer and mathematical skills.
  11. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  12. Willingness to work additional hours as needed.
  13. Ability to interact positively with supervisors and understand repair-related issues.
  14. Capability to perform under stress and in emergencies.
  15. Ability to work as part of a team.
  16. Physical ability to lift, carry, and maneuver objects up to 70 pounds, including bulky items, and to perform reaching, standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, and climbing.
  17. Specific vision abilities including close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
