Job summary

Broadwind Clean Fuels in Abilene, TX is seeking an experienced Pipe Welder to join our fabrication team. You will perform multi-pass pipe welding per blueprints, welding procedures, and customer specs, ensuring quality and safety in a fast-paced plant environment.

The role requires strong welding skills (GMAW, FCAW, TIG), blueprint reading, and the ability to inspect joints, fit parts, and document work accurately. Overhead crane operation certification is a plus.

Qualifications

• Proficient with welding processes including GMAW, FCAW, and TIG.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld maps and related documents.
• Experience in a production environment with heavy fabrication is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform multi-pass pipe welding using GMAW, FCAW, and TIG for stainless steel components.
• Read blueprints, weld symbols, weld maps, and work instructions to fit, fabricate, and weld parts to specs.
• Inspect parts, joints, alignment, orientation, cleanliness, depth, offset, and conformance before fitting, welding, and quality inspection.
• Fit parts within specification and fabricate simple weldments to print.
• Prepare and clean weld joints and parts before and after welding, including preheating and post-weld cleaning.
• Operate overhead cranes after certification and inspect rigging equipment.
• Complete operator sign-off and accurately record job, section, and labor code information in the time matrix.
• Support leaders by monitoring and reporting project, process, and problem-related information.

Job description

Broadwind Clean Fuels is looking for a Pipe Welder to join our team in Abilene, TX. The Welder is responsible for performing advanced welding, fitting, and fabrication work in accordance with blueprints, weld procedures, work instructions, and customer specifications. This role requires strong technical welding skills, quality inspection, safe equipment operation, accurate documentation, and active support of safety, continuous improvement, and team-based production goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

(May include some or all of the following responsibilities):

• Perform multi-pass pipe welding using GMAW, FCAW, and TIG for stainless steel components, including flat, horizontal, and vertical welds as required.
• Read blueprints, weld symbols, weld maps, and work instructions to fit, fabricate, and weld parts to established specifications and parameters.
• Inspect parts, joints, alignment, orientation, cleanliness, depth, offset, and conformance before fitting, welding, and quality inspection.
• Fit parts within specification, ensuring orientation and alignment marks are correct, and fabricate simple weldments to print.
• Prepare and clean weld joints and parts before and after welding, including preheating welds and completing post-weld cleaning.
• Use blueprints, tape measures, layout techniques, and mathematical skills to complete accurate fit-up and fabrication work.
• Operate overhead cranes after certification, inspect rigging equipment, and use proper rigging techniques.
• Perform basic equipment maintenance, including changing wire, drive rolls, liners, contact tips, cleaning equipment, and replacing consumables.
• Complete operator sign-off and accurately record job, section, and labor code information in the time matrix.
• Support leaders by monitoring and reporting project, process, and problem-related information.
• Provide input on processes and labor requirements to support estimating, as needed.
• Participate in customer or potential customer visits, as needed.
• Follow all EHS policies, work safely, fully engage in behavioral-based safety initiatives, and actively support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Perform basic handling of oxy-fuel torch equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Academic/Experience/Credentials/Certifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of a welder's training program or certification or completion of the BWEN welder certification
• 3+ years of multi-pass pipe welding using GMAW, FCAW, and Tig
• Sub-Arc welding experience is a plus
• Experience in a production environment desired
• Experience in heavy fabrications required
• Overhead crane certification

Specialized Skills/Knowledge/Ability

• Solid knowledge of welding theory
• Thorough understanding of blue prints and weld maps; Able to read most weld symbols
• Must be able to complete and pass weld qualification test(s) for this level - overhead flux core weld test
• Able to read and follow all weld work instructions and consistently weld within parameters
• Advanced ability to fit parts from blueprints with little supervision
• Ability to weld with up to 3/32 weld wire
• Ability to clearly communicate weld requirements
• Candidate must be able to pass a Jaeger J2 vision test
