Job summary

Challenge Manufacturing is seeking a skilled Welder for our 2nd shift at the Walker, MI plant. You will inspect and weld repair parts and components, following safety procedures and job instructions to ensure quality and on-time delivery.

Requirements include a high school diploma, 3–5 years of welding experience and MIG/TIG certification. Prior experience with sheet metal and steel parts is a plus. This is a steady, full-time position on a 2nd shift with weekend overtime possible.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 3–5 years welding experience.
  • Certified in MIG and/or TIG welding.
  • English fluency to follow work instructions and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a spot-welding machine to join or repair sheet metal/steel parts or components.
  • Calibrate welding equipment.
  • Maintain tools in good working order.
  • Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Tag parts.
  • Move parts to correct location in the plant/facility.
  • Participate in preventative actions where appropriate.
  • Utilization of Plexus (ERP system).
  • Conduct housekeeping for personal work area or shared facility space.
  • Maintain welding equipment.

Who We Want:

Repair parts/components that are non‑conforming to customer specification by welding, grinding, or other methods as required.

What You’ll Do:

When And Where:

This will be a 2nd Shift / M-F 2:30PM-10:30PM position located at our Plant in Walker, MI.

Occasionally, this may require you to arrive early, stay late, or work on weekends, outside of our regular hours, to ensure we successfully meet customer needs, deadlines, or urgent requests.

What You Need To Have:
  • High School Graduate or equivalent
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English at a level sufficient to safely and effectively perform job duties, including following work instructions, safety procedures, and company communications.
  • 3-5 years in relevant work experience
  • Certified in MIG and/or TIG welding
  • Has high standards of performance for self. Takes responsibility for actions, results, and mistakes. Is thorough, accurate, and reliable when performing and completing job tasks; demonstrates honesty and integrity in all aspects of work.
  • Able to be self‑motivated and prioritize tasks as assigned
  • Takes positive action to objectively resolve conflict by listening, staying focused on issue to find resolution, and monitoring progress. Maintains positive relationships by constructively resolving conflicts.
  • Uses feedback from others to continuously improve performance and work relationships.
  • Moves within own and/or other work areas (flexes) to support plant flow. Works with sense of urgency to meet needs of customers.
  • Has ability to focus on benefits of change and see it as positive; approaches change or newness in constructive/objective manner; views change as learning opportunity.
  • Updates and relays pertinent information to shift supervisor and oncoming shift
  • Is at work when scheduled and ensures coverage when absent
