Job summary

BTD Headquarters is seeking a Welding Technician to perform routine maintenance on welding/assembly equipment and support production by supplying weld machine components. You will operate mills, lathes, and grinders, read calipers/micrometers, and assist with setup and troubleshooting of welders and fixtures.

The role requires a GED/HSE and basic machining or print-reading knowledge; experience with robotics is a plus. A flexible schedule and safe operation of tow-motor may be needed on site.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains electrodes and weld fixtures per PMCS criteria.
  • Maintains consumable inventory (tips, insulation).
  • Manufactures special weld tips & fixtures as needed.
  • Operates mills, lathes, grinders to produce weld tips/fixtures.
  • Reads calipers and micrometers accurately.
  • Assists Weld Machine team in setup and troubleshooting.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs equipment.
  • Maintains Weld Machine tooling to production/quality needs.
  • Notifies management when replacement parts needed.
  • Follows PQCT requirements and updates PMCS/Setup/Teardown docs.
  • Creates/updates fixtures and tooling for new production.
  • Supports tooling/design for development jobs.
  • Recommends equipment/process changes to Department Manager.
  • Operates tow-motor safely when required.
  • Contributes to corrective improvement for downtime.
  • Develops robotic welder programs for new jobs.
  • Keeps work areas clean and organized.
  • Overtime/flexible schedule as needed.

Description

Purpose of Job:

This position reports to the Weld Machine Group leaders, Weld Machine Supervisor, and Weld Machine Manager and is responsible for performing routine maintenance on welding/assembly equipment, support production by supplying weld machine components needed to run production. Operate mills/lathes, and grinder.

Minimum level of education / training required/certificates/licenses:

This position requires a General Educational Diploma (GED) or High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma.

Minimum experience required:

Machining experience helpful but not required. Print reading knowledge, communication, computer proficient, robotic programming a plus.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • 1. Appropriately maintains all electrodes and weld fixtures in accordance to Preventive Maintenance Check Sheet (PMCS) criteria.
  • 2. Accurately maintains an acceptable level of consumable item inventory at all times (tips, insulation, etc.)
  • 3. Correctly manufactures special weld tips & fixtures when required.
  • 4. Proficiently operate mills, lathes, grinders, and other tool room equipment to produce weld tips and fixtures.
  • 5. Adequately reads calipers and micrometers.
  • 6. Successfully assists Weld Machine associates in setup and troubleshooting of welders and fixtures when needed.
  • 7. Proficiently troubleshoots and repairs equipment.
  • 8. Resourcefully maintains Weld Machine tooling to meet production and quality needs.
  • 9. Notifies Weld Machine Manager and/or Supervisor when replacement parts need to be ordered in a timely manner.
  • 10. Competent in process specs such as job Process Quality Control Table (PQCT) requirements and documentation, creates and updates PMCS and Setup/Teardown Standard Work Instructions.
  • 11. Precisely makes fixtures and recommended tooling for new production and development products which includes assisting tooling and design as needed to run development jobs.
  • 12. Resourcefully recommend to Department Manager when equipment or process change should be considered.
  • 13. Safely operate a tow-motor as required.
  • 14. Professionally and competently participates in Corrective Improvement for lost time on production jobs.
  • 15. Correctly and safely develops robotic welder programs for new jobs and maintains current programs.
  • 16. Thoroughly cleaned work areas, putting all items in appropriate locations.
  • 17. Based on company needs a flexible work schedule and/or overtime is needed.
