Job summary

Greater Austin YMCA seeks a Welcome Center Team Member to greet members, assist guests, and support programs at the front desk. You will help create a friendly, efficient environment and be the first point of contact for questions, tours, and memberships.

Your role supports member retention, daily shift tasks, and upholding the YMCA’s mission and community presence. A positive, service-oriented attitude is essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 16 years old.
• Experience in customer service required.
• Bilingual English and Tamil preferred.
• Team player with a positive service attitude.
• Organized with ability to prioritize tasks.
• Clear listening and written/spoken communication.

Responsibilities

• Actively greet and engage each member or guest entering the YMCA.
• Occasionally open or close the facility and handle keys as needed.
• Deliver excellent service to members, guests, and program participants.
• Provide guided tours to prospective members and listen-first before and after tours.
• Follow branch protocols for prospective members and member retention.
• Stay informed about branch activities and schedules to assist members.
• Resolve membership concerns and inform supervisors of issues.
• Reconcile end-of-shift cash from memberships, merch, and programs.
• Promote the YMCA's values, mission, and wellness philosophy.
• Model the Y’s culture in interactions with staff and guests.
• Serve as an ambassador of the Y and its brand.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

How You Will Make An Impact

• Actively engage and greet each member/guest who comes into the YMCA.
• Occasionally open or close the facility and have key-holding duties.
• Provide excellent service to members, guests, and program participants in the Y and on the phone, contributing to member retention.
• Provide Cause-driven tours to potential new members and use "Listen to First" skills before and after the tour.
• Follow and lead branch protocols for prospective members.
• Keep informed of all branch activities & schedules in order to provide exceptional member service.
• Handle and resolve membership concerns and inform the supervisor of unusual situations or unresolved issues.
• Reconcile end-of-shift money received through the sale of membership, merchandise, mini-camp, and program registrations.
• Promote the YMCA's character values, mission, wellness philosophy, and role in the community.
• Lead by example the Y's mission, vision, and values with program participants, members, staff, and guests.
• Become an Ambassador of the Y's work and culture by being the ultimate storyteller of who we are as an organization and brand.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

What You Bring To The Y

• Minimum of 16 years old.
• Experience in customer service.
• Bilingual (English and Tamil) candidates are preferred.
• You are a team player with a positive, service-oriented attitude and can work well with others.
• You are organized, able to prioritize tasks, and handle multiple assignments.
• You listen for understanding and meaning. You speak and write effectively.
