Job summary

Minnesota Department of Commerce is seeking a Trainee Weights & Measures Investigator to enforce quality standards and gain hands-on experience. You will inspect meters, scales, and packaged goods across northwest Minnesota, with training in Burnsville and statewide field rotations.

Overnight travel is required during training. The role progresses to a Weights & Measures Investigator 1 - Light Duty after successful training, with a day shift, Mon-Fri schedule and the possibility of growth within

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to obtain a Class D Driver's License (with clean driving record) prior to end of training period.
• Math skills sufficient to understand and solve basic volumetric equations and correctly apply measurement methods. (to be verified with a test at first interview)
• Computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook).

Responsibilities

• Carry out inspections and performance-based testing on low volume meters at gas stations and other fueling points.
• Perform scale inspections at grocery stores and other commercial businesses.
• Conduct package inspections primarily at grocery stores, typically in the presence of owners / operators.
