Job summary

Sasha Bruce Youthwork in Washington, DC is seeking a Youth Engagement Specialist to support youth and families in a residential care setting. This part-time position covers Saturdays and Sundays from 3 PM to 11 PM, reporting to the Program Manager, with an overnight schedule as needed.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED (Bachelor’s preferred) and 3–5 years of experience working with youth facing mental health or behavioral challenges.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred in psychology, counseling, or social work.
• Must have 3–5 years of experience working with youth with significant mental health or behavioral challenges, preferably in a residential care setting.
• Creative, energetic and problem-solver with a passion for working with young people.
• Valid Driver’s License, clean driving record; background clearances required.
• Must be able to transport staff and/or clients as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform rounds to engage with youth in and outside the home, facilitate activities and provide counseling.
• Provide crisis intervention and on-site counseling when necessary.
• Maintain house supervision, enforce rules and ensure safety; inspect rooms and common areas.
• Assist with conflict management; de-escalate and document incidents.
• As needed, coordinate with medical/government personnel and complete required forms.
• Demonstrate proficiency in emergency procedures and drills.
• Complete documentation including logs of rounds and activities.
• Produce legible notes and house logs documenting shifts and interactions.
• Provide administrative coverage and maintain house safety and rules.
• Assist with janitorial duties and report maintenance needs.
• Support shift coverage and participate in annual licensing training.
