UPMC Hamot's Operating Room in Erie, PA is seeking Full-Time Night Shift Surgical Technologists to join a high-performing team. Our OR features 17 operating suites and supports Robotics, Kidney Transplants, Trauma, and a wide range of specialties for patients from infant to geriatric.

Night shift coverage with weekend/holiday requirements and on-call rotations to support 24/7 operations. Sign-on bonuses range up to $25,000 based on experience and commitment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare sterile field for procedures and organize sterile supplies
• Pass instruments, sponges, and sutures to surgeons and assistants
• Assist with setup and turnover of the operating room
• Verify equipment setup and functionality for procedures
• Restock supplies to maintain readiness for upcoming cases

Shifts & Hours

This role is dedicated to night shift coverage and includes weekend and holiday requirements based on department needs, as well as participation in an on-call rotation to support 24/7 operating room operations and patient care.

Sign on Bonus Details (Full-Time, 2-year commitment)

• $10,000 sign-on bonus available for Surg. Techswith less than a year of experience.
• $12,000 sign-on bonus available for Surg. Techs with 1-2 years of experience.
• $15,000 sign-on bonus available for Surg. Techs with 2+ years of experience.

• $17,000 sign-on bonus available for Surg. Techs with 1-2 years of experience.

Title and Salary will be determined based upon education and experience.

About the Role

As a Surgical Technologist at UPMC Hamot, you will support the surgical team by performing a wide variety of critical tasks within the operating room, including:

• Preparing and organizing the sterile field for surgical procedures
• Passing instruments, sponges, and sutures to surgeons and surgical assistants
• Preparing and managing sterile supplies
• Assisting with cleanup and turnover of the operating room
• Verifying the setup, placement, and functionality of surgical equipment
• Restocking supplies to maintain readiness for upcoming procedures
• Managing specialty trays, graft materials, and other key resources during procedures
• Recording patient data relevant to the procedure

Responsibilities:

• Ensure all medications are labeled and handed to surgeon according to established policies and procedures.
• Before an operation, help to prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments and equipment, sterile drapes, and sterile solutions.
• Assemble both sterile and non-sterile equipment.
• Adjust and check equipment to ensure it is working properly.
• During surgery, efficiently pass instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons and surgeon assistants.
• Hold retractors or instruments, cut sutures, sponge or suction the operative site under the supervision of the surgeon and help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments.
• Assist in the preparation, care for, and disposal of specimens taken for laboratory analysis and helps apply dressings.
• Assist the surgical team with putting on sterile gowns and gloves.
• After surgery, may help transfer patients to the recovery room.
• Clean and restock the operating room.
• Prepare patients for surgery by wash, shave, and ensure aseptic incision sites.
• May transport patients to the operating room, help position them on the operating table, and cover them with sterile surgical drapes.
• Ensure clean, safe environment through continued alertness to safety and explosive hazards and aseptic technique.
