Job summary

St. Luke’s University Health Network is seeking a Cardiac Ultrasound Technologist to perform transthoracic, transesophageal and stress echo exams using M-mode, 2D and Doppler. The role includes image processing, documentation in the echo reporting system and adherence to ICAEL standards.

Qualifications

• High school graduate.

• Myriad of echo-related skills required including patient prep and imaging protocols.

Responsibilities

• Identify patient per hospital policy using two identifiers.
• Provide the total patient exam experience per echocardiography policy.
• Assist the physician during appropriate exams.
• Gather and record QA/PI data for ICAEL Accreditation.
• Maintain own professional development through in-services and CME.
• Keep workspace and equipment clean and stocked.
• Cross-train for EKGs, holter and stress testing.
• Process echo images and documentation in the echo reporting system.
• Demonstrate competency with department information systems and required applications.

The Cardiac Ultrasound Technologist will provide patient-centered high quality exams such as Transthoracic Adult and Pediatric, Transesophageal and Stress Echo utilizing modalities of M-mode, two-dimensional and doppler. Complementary modalities such as contrast and advanced quantitative techniques (three D, strain and strain rate, speckle tracking) will be utilized

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Identify patient per hospital policy utilizing two (2) identifiers.

• Provides the total patient exam experience according to the Policy and Procedures of echocardiography for the network.

• Assists the performing physician during appropriate exams.

• Assists in gathering and recording Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement as requested for ICAEL Accreditation.

• Maintains responsibility for own professional development through active participation in in-services and/or continuing medical education programs.

• Responsible for cleanliness of workspace, equipment, and restocking supplies in work area.

• Cross training for assisting with EKG’s, placement of holter monitors and event monitors and assisting with stress testing.

• Exhibits knowledge and ability to process echo images and documentation into the echo structured reporting system.

• Demonstrates competency with department information service required applications.

• Possesses knowledge of insurance codes, cardiology procedures, and required paperwork for all procedures and department requirements.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Sitting up to 7 hours per day in 1 hour increments. Walking up to 2 hours per day in 15 minute increments. Occasional standing, up to 1 hour. Continuous use of fingers/hands to manipulate probe, equipment switches and data entry on keyboard. Frequent use of upper extremities to reposition patients, transport patients, and lifting supplies up to 10 lbs. Frequently pushes echo equipment for portable studies, approximately 440+ lbs. Occasionally stoops, bends and reaches above shoulder level. Hearing as it relates to normal conversation and doppler echocardiography. Seeing as it relates to general vision, near vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and visual monotony.

EDUCATION:

High school graduate. Graduate of an accredited/approved Cardiovascular Technology program or equivalent.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum 1 year experience in Cardiac Ultrasound preferred. Registry by Cardiovascular Credentialing International/National Board of Cardiovascular Testing, American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
