Job summary

Advocate Health Care is seeking a qualified MRI technician to join our team in Park Ridge, Illinois. The ideal candidate should possess a 2-year Radiology or MRI program graduate and be certified by ARRT or ARMRIT. Responsibilities include positioning patients, performing MRI scans, and ensuring optimal image quality. The position requires basic knowledge of anatomy and MRI procedures, along with CPR certification. Candidates must be prepared for flexible work hours and commitment to high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiology or MRI program.
  • Must have ARRT or ARMRIT certification.
  • 1 hour of annual education in stroke care.

Responsibilities

  • Position and immobilize patients for MRI scans.
  • Initiate IVs for contrast media administration.
  • Archive images onto optical disks.
  • Follow MRI workflow and verify studies.

Job description

Major Responsibilities
  • Accountable for the positioning and immobilization of patients and proper selection of technical factors along with computer reformatting of acquired data to obtain magnetic resonance scans procedures of optimal quality.
  • Initiates IVs for administration of contrast media for MRI enhancement in accordance with departmental policy and utilizing universal precautions in the process.
  • Archives images onto optical disks.
  • Follows MRI workflow including networking of images to PACS and verifying studies.
  • Selects appropriate technical factors on an individual patient and procedural basis to provide optimal quality examinations.
  • Performs post processing of computer data to enhance data and image information.
  • Operates support equipment for MRI, such as: independent workstation additional disc drives, pressure injector, PACS.
  • Transfers patients to and from MRI scanning table and prepares patient for examination by explaining procedure and answering any questions patient may have.
  • Accounts for obtaining documentation for department records related to patient statistics, supplies, patient billing information and preservation of patient records.
  • Documents any allergic reaction, incident report regarding staff or patient situations.
  • Provides timely information for inventory of supplies.
  • Ensures all films are properly identified and numbered for each patient according to current department procedures for accurate interpretation by radiologist.
  • Assists in scheduling of examinations and documenting complete.
Education/Experience Required
  • 2 yrs Radiology or MRI program graduate - ARRT or ARMRIT - 1 hour annually in stroke care
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
  • Basic knowledge of cross sectional anatomy and usual MRI procedures
  • ARRT Registry or ARMRIT - CPR Certification - MRI Certification Preferred or within 12 months of hire into position for (ARRT only)
Physical Requirements And Working Conditions
  • Ability to work overtime when required. Ability to be flexible in starting times to meet demands. (weekend rotation and flexible hours.)
  • Attends additional educational and safety inservices.
  • Ability to respond to work at short notice.
  • Exposed to radiation.
  • Ability to operate portable equipment.
  • Ability to deal with extremely ill patients.
  • Ability to communicate with patients.
  • Ability to adjust to flexible work hours.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays and emergency call-back.
  • Ability to participate on-call program and available to meet department needs with minimal notice.
  • Ability to do light, medium or heavy lifting. Lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally and/or up to 25 pounds frequently.
  • Ability to make independent professional decisions using good judgment skills.
  • Ability to practice high quality patient care and technical competence.
  • Ability to function with minimal assistance in performing job activities.
  • May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, such as film processing chemicals.
