Weekend Phlebotomist: Inpatient Lab Support

Job summary

UPMC Mercy is seeking a casual Phlebotomist to support our hospital on weekends. Shifts on Saturdays and Sundays run from 4am to either 10:30am or 12:30pm, with inpatient phlebotomy experience preferred.

Responsibilities include patient identification, venipuncture, specimen transport, and basic clerical tasks while upholding safety standards. A high school diploma and phlebotomy certification are preferred; LIS knowledge is a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Minimum 6 months experience performing phlebotomy preferred.
• Medical terminology knowledge and LIS experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interact with laboratory customers courteously; respond to telephone inquiries promptly.
• Procure blood specimens by venipuncture, heelstick, and fingerstick; instruct patients on collection procedures; may collect non-blood samples.
• Demonstrate dependability and independent judgment to prioritize department needs.
