Responsibilities

• Interact with laboratory customers courteously and professionally; respond to inquiries.
• Procure blood specimens by venipuncture, heelstick, and fingerstick; instruct patients as needed.
• Demonstrates dependability, reliability, and independent judgment to meet department priorities.
• Specimen collection may occur at off-site locations; transport to the laboratory following safety procedures.
• Adhere to laboratory and hospital policies on procedures, safety, and compliance.
• Perform related clerical duties; enter demographic data and test orders in the information system.
• Train and orient new employees, students, and residents as assigned.
• Inform staff and pathologists of any unusual incidents.
• May perform arterial puncture following strict guidelines.
• Monitor and maintain supplies; use materials cost-effectively.
