Job summary

Neel Veterinary Hospital is seeking an experienced Emergency & Critical Care Surgical Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced emergency and specialty team. Assist veterinarians and credentialed technicians with procedures, anesthesia, and patient monitoring in a weekend overnight role.

You will prep patients for surgery, monitor anesthesia, perform intubation/extubation, IV access, and post-operative care while maintaining sterile protocols.

Qualifications

• Previous Veterinary Assistant experience required.
• Familiar with surgical protocols and procedures.
• Experience monitoring anesthesia required.
• Ability to intubate and extubate patients.
• Experience placing IV catheters and performing blood draws.
• Knowledge of sterilization procedures and surgical instrument handling.
• Emergency, ICU, or specialty veterinary experience preferred.
• Strong multitasking and communication skills.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced emergency environment.
• Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and technicians with emergency and surgical procedures.
• Prepare patients for surgery, including restraint, clipping, and surgical prep.
• Monitor anesthesia during procedures and assist with patient recovery.
• Intubate and extubate surgical patients.
• Place IV catheters and perform blood draws.
• Maintain sterile surgical fields and follow sterilization protocols.
• Monitor hospitalized and post-operative patients
• Assist with diagnostics, radiographs, and laboratory sample collection.
• Maintain accurate medical records and treatment logs.
• Clean, stock, and maintain ICU, treatment, and surgical areas.
• Provide compassionate nursing care and patient handling.
