Job summary

Neel Veterinary Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK, seeks an experienced Emergency & Critical Care Surgical Veterinary Assistant for weekend overnight coverage. You’ll support veterinarians and credentialed technicians with emergency procedures, surgical prep, anesthesia monitoring, and postoperative nursing care in a fast-paced team.

Ideal candidates have prior veterinary assistant experience, strong multitasking and communication skills, and a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• Previous veterinary assistant experience required.
• Familiarity with surgical protocols and procedures.
• Experience monitoring anesthesia required.
• Ability to intubate and extubate patients.
• Experience placing IV catheters and performing blood draws.
• Knowledge of sterilization procedures and instrument handling.
• Emergency/ICU or specialty veterinary experience preferred.
• Strong multitasking and communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced emergency environment.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and technicians with emergency and surgical procedures.
• Prepare patients for surgery, including restraint, clipping, and prep.
• Monitor anesthesia during procedures and assist with recovery.
• Intubate and extubate surgical patients as needed.
• Place IV catheters and perform blood draws.
• Maintain sterile surgical fields and follow sterilization protocols.
• Monitor hospitalized and post-operative patients.
• Assist with diagnostics, radiographs, and lab work.
• Maintain accurate medical records and treatment logs.
• Clean, stock, and maintain ICU, treatment, and surgical areas.
• Provide compassionate nursing care and patient handling.
