Job summary

Neel Veterinary Hospital in Oklahoma City is seeking an experienced Emergency & Critical Care Surgical Veterinary Assistant for weekend overnight coverage. You will assist veterinarians and credentialed technicians with emergency procedures, surgical prep, anesthesia monitoring, and post-operative nursing care.

Qualifications

• Previous Veterinary Assistant experience required
• Familiar with surgical protocols and procedures
• Experience monitoring anesthesia required
• Ability to intubate and extubate patients
• Experience placing IV catheters and performing blood draws
• Knowledge of sterilization procedures and surgical instrument handling
• Emergency, ICU, or specialty veterinary experience preferred
• Strong multitasking and communication skills
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced emergency environment
• Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and technicians with emergency and surgical procedures
• Prepare patients for surgery, including restraint, clipping, and surgical prep
• Monitor anesthesia during procedures and assist with patient recovery
• Intubate and extubate surgical patients
• Place IV catheters and perform blood draws
• Maintain sterile surgical fields and follow sterilization protocols
• Monitor hospitalized and post-operative patients
• Assist with diagnostics, radiographs, and laboratory sample collection
• Maintain accurate medical records and treatment logs
• Clean, stock, and maintain ICU, treatment, and surgical areas
• Provide compassionate nursing care and patient handling
