Job summary

Achievement Centers for Children’s Camp Cheerful in Strongsville, OH seeks a Weekend Overnight Direct Support Counselor to provide direct care and support to campers aged 16 and older in a safe, inclusive overnight camp setting.

You will supervise activities, assist with daily living needs, and encourage participation while maintaining a 1:3 counselor-to-camper ratio. Training includes CPR, First Aid, CPI, and comprehensive orientation.

Qualifications

• Previous camp experience
• Experience working with individuals with disabilities
• Experience providing personal care
• Students pursuing degrees in education, social work, psychology, nursing, therapeutic recreation, or related human services fields are encouraged to apply
• Internship opportunities may be available if approved by your college or university

Responsibilities

• Provide direct supervision and support for campers with intellectual, developmental, physical, and neurological disabilities
• Assist campers with personal care needs, including toileting, dressing, changing, hygiene, and mobility assistance
• Encourage and participate in recreational activities including hiking, crafts, sports, music, games, campfires, and other camp programs
• Foster a safe, positive, and inclusive environment where campers can build confidence and friendships
• Maintain appropriate camper supervision while ensuring health and safety at all times
• Work collaboratively with fellow counselors and camp leadership to meet each camper's individual needs
• Maintain a typical counselor-to-camper ratio of 1:3
