Job summary

The Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, OH is seeking a Charge Nurse to plan, direct, and evaluate patient care on a designated shift. You will model professional nursing, advocate for patients, and promote a positive work environment as a lead clinician.

Requirements include a BSN, current Ohio RN license, and BLS. Two years of nursing experience is preferred. The role covers 30 hours per week (0.75 FTE) with Saturday and Sunday shifts and an additional shift every two weeks.

  • Assess, monitor, and support employees during the shift.
  • Provide direct patient care as needed and support nursing leadership.

1 Night Shift (7p-7a) 0.75 FTE, 30 hours/week Every Saturday & Sunday, plus one additional shift per two-week pay period.

Benefits Eligible Flat rate premium weekend pay of $50.80/hour with $5.20 Night Shift Differential.

Job Description Summary

The Charge Nurse plans, directs, and evaluates the overall patient care and functions in a particular area during an assigned shift. Serves as a role model to positively influence culture and work environment. Practices professional nursing and promotes patient advocacy in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses.

Essential Functions
  • Coordinates the activities of a particular shift and directs, organizes, and assigns work to the employees.
  • Ensures adequate supplies, equipment and utilization of staff.
  • Serves as an expert EPIC Super User.
  • Assesses, monitors, and supports employees throughout the shift.
  • Facilitates direct patient care through coaching, delegation and service recovery.
  • Provides direct patient care as needed.
  • Engages in the “workplace community” by staying aware of changes, participating in data collection or auditing, understanding Quality Improvement, and representing staff at relevant meetings and then reporting important information and updates back to staff.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance.
  • Institutes emergency responses as appropriate.
  • Maintains quality and safety as a priority.
  • Specifies the critical resources required to accomplish the team's objectives.
  • Makes appropriate staffing decisions with understanding and consideration of workload targets and budget impact.
Education Requirement

BSN, required.

Licensure Requirement

Current Ohio Nursing License, required.

Certifications

BLS, required.

Experience

2 years nursing experience, preferred.
