Job summary

Aptiv Interconnect in Melbourne, FL is seeking a Machine Shop Supervisor to lead day-to-day machining operations. You will guide a team of machinists and operators, ensuring high-precision production meets safety, quality, and delivery standards.

You will oversee weekend shifts, drive continuous improvement, and manage cross-functional collaboration with Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and Toolroom teams on a site that emphasizes safety and accountability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering preferred.
• 7+ years of experience in a machine shop environment or 5+ years as a Process Engineer in manufacturing.
• Aerospace/Defense manufacturing domain experience.
• Current ITAR compliance training and strict adherence required.

Responsibilities

• Weekend supervision to manage the weekend shift and align with production demands and Quality.
• Direct daily machine shop operations to meet schedules, setup times, and output targets while ensuring quality and on-time delivery.
• Reconcile operator ERP labor hours against timecard records for accurate labor tracking.
• Maintain Tier boards and conduct weekend-style pass-downs to track performance and gaps.
• Monitor daily KPIs (OEE, scrap, downtime) and implement countermeasures to keep production on track.
• Lead the floor-level rollout of new machining technologies, tooling, and automated processes.
• Uphold strict quality accountability; ensure metrology inspections and first-piece buy-offs are completed.
• Enforce daily safety protocols and lead shift investigations and corrective actions.

Leadership & Core Responsibilities

Strategic Ownership

• Weekend Supervision: Manage the weekend shift keeping up with production demands, program updates and Quality collaboration.
• Production Performance: Direct daily machine shop shift operations to ensure production schedules, setup times, and output targets are met while maintaining strict quality and customer delivery standards.
• ERP & Timecard Reconciliation: Accountable for daily audit and reconciliation of operator ERP labor hours against timecard records to ensure accurate labor tracking and reduce cost variances.
• Tier Boards & Visual Management: Maintain mandatory Tier board meetings on weekend shifts—matching weekday standards—to track cell performance, identify headcount and resource gaps, drive continuous improvement, and ensure seamless pass-down notes between cell leads across shifts.
• Continuous Improvement: Monitor daily shift KPIs (OEE, scrap, downtime) and implement immediate, localized countermeasures to keep production on track.

Team Leadership & Technical Execution

• Technology Implementation: Lead the floor-level rollout and adoption of new machining technologies, tooling, and automated processes to improve shift productivity and precision.
• Continuous Improvement: Monitor daily shift KPIs (OEE, scrap, downtime) and implement immediate, localized countermeasures to keep production on track.
• Quality & Accountability: Enforce strict individual accountability for part quality across all shifts, ensuring every machinist performs required metrology inspections and executes proper first-piece buy-offs before running production. Foster an open shop floor culture where employees are expected and comfortable to ask questions immediately whenever in doubt.
• Safety & Compliance: Enforce daily safety protocols, conduct floor safety audits, immediately address hazards, and lead shift-level incident investigations and corrective actions.
• Performance Management: Provide real-time coaching, conduct regular performance check-ins, and address skill gaps or behavioral issues directly on the floor.
• Cross-Functional Partnership: Work directly with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Control, Maintenance, and Toolroom teams to resolve daily floor bottlenecks and keep machines running.
• Team Communication: Lead daily shift-change huddles and pass-down logs to ensure seamless handoffs, clear priorities, and transparent operational updates.

Position Requirements

Education & Technical Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering is preferred
• Experience: 7+ years of experience in machine shop environment or 5+ years of experience as Process Engineer (or similar position) in manufacturing environment.
• Industry Domain: Aerospace/Defense manufacturing.
• Regulatory Compliance: Current ITAR compliance training and strict adherence required.

Certifications & Competencies

• Certifications : 7+ years of experience in machine shop environment or 5+ years of experience as Process Engineer (or similar position) in manufacturing environment.
• Systems Proficiency: Google Workspace, SmartView, ADP
• Core Competencies: Strategic planning, executive reporting, cross-functional collaboration,Strong documentation/record keeping skills, Advanced blueprint reading, metrology and inspection skills required
