Job summary

Arch Amenities Group at Cameron Wellness Center seeks an Exercise Specialist to supervise the fitness floor, assist members, and educate on safe cardio and weight training per ACSM guidelines. You will perform orientations, develop exercise prescriptions, and support wellness programs.

Responsibilities include equipment guidance, safety monitoring, and promoting classes while maintaining professional interaction with members and staff.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Exercise Science or related field is required.
  • Nationally Accredited Personal Training Certification within 6 months (ACSM/NASM/NSCA preferred).
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a fitness center environment.
  • Basic computer literacy and strong communication skills.

  • Assist members with workouts and monitor their sessions on the fitness floor.
  • Evaluate fitness levels and design individualized exercise prescriptions.
  • Perform daily safety checks and report equipment issues promptly.
  • Maintain clean, organized facilities and assist with maintenance tasks.
  • Respond to member concerns and emergencies per protocol; protect confidentiality.
  • Promote classes, programs, and events and participate in center activities.

Job description

The Exercise Specialist is responsible for monitoring the fitness floor, being responsive to members and guests by offering assistance , and educating Center members on the safe and correct use of cardio and weight training equipment. This person performs orientation/assessments, provides exercise prescriptions, answers fitness and wellness related questions in adherence with ACSM standards and guidelines, and promotes fitness programs and personal training.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
  • Orient new members to their exercise program, equipment use and safety, documentation, training heartrateand ratings of perceived exertion.
  • Assist members with proper use of equipment, answering fitness/wellness questionspertaining totheir workouts, andmonitoringtheir workouts while using the fitness floor.
  • Evaluate client’s overall level of fitness, with special attention to cardiovascular function and metabolism.
  • Develop individualized exercise prescriptions and design exercise programs for a diverse population, including high risk clientele, based on assessment outcomes, goals, needs, and preferences.
  • Perform daily department walk through to ensure safety and cleanliness.
  • Immediately identify, report, and document any operational defects or equipment issues
  • Perform daily facility and equipment maintenance and cleaning processes to include: wiping down equipment, re-racking weights, conducting equipment checks and noting any areas needing attention/repair, andmaintainingan organized and clutter free workout area.
  • Respond to member concerns, suggestions and complaints ina timely(24-48 hours), professional and consistent manner. Consistently offer the highest level of personalized member service whilemaintaininga positive, enthusiastic, and helpful attitude.
  • Respond to emergencies according to protocol and file appropriate paperworkand documentation.
  • Maintain member/client confidentiality. Keep accurate,timely, and organized records.
  • Support members on the fitness floor by engaging in conversation and offering assistance. Support, teach, and encourage members to meet their fitness goals.
  • Participate in Center and community events as needed.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
  • Teach safe and effective group exercise classes.
  • Assist in the implementation of incentive programs, health promotion activities and other specialty programs.
  • Develop relationship and encourage member referrals.
  • Promote (internally and externally) classes, programs, and events throughout Center .
  • Participate in corporate wellness programming as assigned.
  • Participate in Center classes, programs, services, and events to better understand all of the Center Attend fitness department meetings and all team meetings.
  • A ttend continuing education classes to keep certifications current.
  • Maintain exemplary record of attendance.
  • Maintain a professional attire and demeanor at all times.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS
  • Have experience and working knowledge of protocols and programs for working with special populations or with specific areas of concern.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of exercise physiology and fitness programming.
  • Must be able to distinguish contraindicated exercises.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of designing and modifying exercise programs for high risk
  • Share ideas and knowledge with team members, thus broadening resources, creating more revenue streams, and assisting members reach their goals.
  • Keeps current with Center related programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Exhibit flexibility in working with new ideas and methodologies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS or MS Degree required in Exercise Science or related field ( K inesiology, Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Physical Education, Athletic Training) .
  • N ationallyAccreditedPersonalTrainingCertification required within6months of employment( ACSM,NASM ,NSCA preferred).
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a fitness center environment preferred.
  • Basic computer literacy required .
  • Outgoing personality and excellent communicationskills are essential.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. Some lifting may require additional assistance from another staff person .
  • Grasping and gripping movements .
  • Occasional exposure to bodily fluids .
  • Occasional lifting, pulling, climbing, kneeling, and bending .
