Baillie-Lumber-3 in Kentucky is seeking a dependable Weekend Boiler Watchman to monitor and feed the boiler supporting lumber-drying kilns. This role is essential to keep the drying operation safe, consistent, and running over weekend shifts.

Schedule: Friday through Sunday, 12-hour shifts (36 hours weekly). Two openings: one day shift and one night shift. Responsibilities include monitoring gauges, fuel, alarms, recording readings, and communicating concerns to maintenance.

Qualifications

  • Dependable attendance and reliability for weekend shifts.
  • Ability to stay alert during 12-hour shifts.
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete logs.
  • Comfortable working independently while communicating with the team.
  • Work around heat, dust, and noise with safety in mind.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor boiler operation, fuel supply, gauges, water levels and alarms.
  • Feed fuel into the boiler system and maintain consistent fueling.
  • Perform routine checks on boiler, kiln, and related equipment.
  • Record readings and report concerns to maintenance or management.
  • Follow procedures when responding to alarms or abnormal conditions.
  • Perform routine cleanup and remove ash as directed.
  • Keep the work area clean and hazard-free.
  • Communicate equipment status during shift changes.
  • Follow safety procedures, including lockout/tagout where applicable.

Weekend Boiler Watchman
About the Position

We are seeking dependable individuals to monitor and feed the boiler that supplies heat to our lumber-drying kilns. This position helps keep our drying operation running safely and consistently throughout the weekend. The ideal candidate is attentive, safety-minded, and comfortable working independently. Reliable attendance and the ability to respond promptly to equipment concerns are essential.

Schedule

Friday through Sunday, 12-hour shifts, 36 scheduled hours per week.

Openings

One day-shift position and one night-shift position.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor boiler operation, fuel supply, gauges, water levels, and alarms.
  • Feed fuel into the boiler system and keep fuel feeding consistently.
  • Perform routine checks of the boiler, kiln system, and related equipment.
  • Record operating readings and communicate concerns to maintenance or management.
  • Follow established procedures when responding to alarms or abnormal conditions.
  • Perform routine cleanup and remove ash as directed.
  • Keep the work area clean and free of hazards.
  • Communicate equipment status and outstanding concerns during shift changes.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout when applicable.
Qualifications
  • Dependable attendance and availability every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
  • Ability to remain alert and attentive throughout a 12-hour shift.
  • Ability to follow instructions, complete logs, and recognize unusual equipment conditions.
  • Comfortable working independently and communicating with the team.
  • Ability to perform duties that involve walking, standing, stairs, bending, and working around heat, dust, and noise, with reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to operate forklifts, ability to operate loader/skid steer to load dust.
  • Perform PMs on machinery throughout the facility.
  • Previous boiler, kiln, sawmill, manufacturing, or equipment experience preferred.
