Rex Lumber, Bristol, LLC in Bristol, FL, US is seeking entry level Boiler/Dry Kiln Helper to support boiler operators and dry lumber. You will learn SOPs and assist with operation, security, and fire watch across rotating 12‑hour shifts including nights and holidays.

This role emphasizes initiative, safety, teamwork, and the ability to follow instructions while gaining hands-on experience in industrial boiler operation.

Boiler/Dry Kiln Helper

Job Type: Full Time - 3-week rotating 12hr. shift including nights, weekends, and holidays

Job Description:

This is an entry level position that consists of assisting our Boiler Operators with operating and tending to our industrial boilers to dry lumber, provide mill security, and fire watch. The Boiler Helper is someone with little to no experience that has initiative and a willingness to gain knowledge of the Standard Operating Procedures to potentially become an experienced Industrial Boiler Operator. Industrial Boilers are water-containing vessels that generate steam with the help of a heat source. The steam is then transferred to the lumber kilns in order to dry the lumber that is produced from the sawmill.

Essential duties and Responsibilities:

• Hourly rounds/walk throughs throughout the mill.
• Responsible for clean-up around the boiler areas and reporting of any potential dangers.
• Transport of materials to and from work areas manually or using carts, hand trucks, or hoists.
• Accurately report/document daily well readings
• Assist boiler operator as needed
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor

Requirements:

• Must be able to work a 12 hour shift
• Must be able to work days, nights, weekends, and holiday according to schedule
• Understand and follow oral or written instructions issued by supervisors
• Perform a variety of duties which may often change
• Evaluate information using measurable standards
• Repeat tasks of short duration according to a set procedure
• Ability to exert muscle force repeatedly or continuously over time
• Ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with body, arms, and/or legs
• Ability to watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to ensure a machine is working properly
• Ability to work well as part of a team
• Ability to complete daily reports as required
• Understand basic mathematical skills
• Understand basic machine components and operation

Safety:

• Follow all area/machine center specific safety regulations
• Wear all required personal protective equipment: hardhat, safety glasses, hearing protection, etc…as required
• Do not enter restricted areas
• Report immediately to supervisor any piece of equipment that is unsafe or functioning improperly
• Request assistance when a task exceeds individual knowledge
• Visually inspect equipment and area before starting/operating
• Whenever possible, eliminate unsafe conditions as soon as possible
• Use Standard Lockout Procedures when appropriate for machine centers
• Use proper lifting technique by pushing, pulling, and lifting with your legs and not your back
• Never approach a saw while it is still running
• Follow all other safety regulations as set forth by the company
