Albany Med Health System is seeking a Physician Assistant for weekend coverage in the Acute Care Surgery & Critical Care team. This 1.0 FTE role focuses on inpatient care for surgeries and ICU, working with residents to cover weekend patients.

The PA will perform rounds, assist in OR, manage admissions/transfers, document encounters in the EMR, and coordinate discharges. A NYS license and NCCPA certification are required, with BLS/ACLS and ATLS eligibility preferred.

Qualifications

• Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Current NYS licensure and NCCPA certification.
• BLS and ACLS certifications required.
• Willing to audit or ATLS certified.
• 1–2 years of experience preferred; emergency, trauma, or acute surgical care is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform inpatient rounds and contribute to clinical decision-making.
• Coordinate admissions and transfers for seamless transitions of care.
• Document patient encounters accurately in the EMR.
• Provide first or second assist in the operating room.
• Coordinate patient discharges and arrange follow-up care.
• Respond to ED ACS/CC consults and provide timely evaluations.
• Collaborate with attending surgeons, residents, nursing staff and other departments.
• Support trauma and acute care protocols during high-acuity situations.
• Participate in weekend hand-offs and care coordination meetings.
