Albany Med Health System is recruiting a Physician Assistant to provide dedicated weekend coverage for the Acute Care Surgery and Critical Care team. The PA will perform inpatient rounds, assist in the OR, and manage admissions, transfers, discharges, and follow-ups in a fast-paced surgical environment.

The role requires NYS PA licensure with NCCPA certification, BLS/ACLS, and preferred ATLS. 1–2 years in emergency/trauma or acute surgical care is a plus; strong communication and independent

Qualifications

• Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Current NYS licensure and national certification (NCCPA).
• BLS and ACLS certifications required.
• Willing to audit or ATLS certified.

Responsibilities

• Perform inpatient rounds and contribute to clinical decision-making.
• Coordinate admissions and transfers to ensure seamless transitions of care.
• Document all patient encounters accurately and timely in the EMR.
• Provide first or second assist in the operating room
• Coordinate patient discharges and ensure follow-up care is arranged
• Respond to Emergency Department ACS&CC consults and provide timely evaluations
• Collaborate with attending surgeons, residents, nursing staff, and other departments.
• Support trauma and acute care protocols during high-acuity situations.
• Participate in weekend hand-offs and care coordination meetings as needed.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members
• Effectively partner with other members of the ACS & CC team (surgeons, APP, residents, medical students)
• Support the mission of education, research and quality
