Job summary

Micro-Tronics, Inc. in Tempe, AZ, seeks an experienced WEDM Machinist II to set up and operate EDM equipment and to produce high-precision aerospace components. The role focuses on quality, safety, and continuous improvement within a 2nd shift (2:30 PM–1:00 AM, Mon–Thu).

Qualified candidates will have 4+ years in machining with EDM experience, blueprints/GD&T proficiency, and CAD/CAM exposure. This full-time, non-exempt position emphasizes teamwork with Quality, Engineering, and Production.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years’ work experience, trade school, vocational education or apprenticeship required.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in EDM machining.
• Practical experience with conventional machining, desirable.
• Ability to use manual inspection tools required.
• Practical application of machine shop mathematics.
• Exposure to basic CAD/CAM, desirable.
• Experience in WEDM and Small Hole, desirable.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate EDM equipment (including Wire EDM and/or Small Hole, if applicable)
• Manufacture electrodes and fixtures to support machining processes
• Interpret blueprints and GD&T to ensure accurate part production
• Perform in‑process inspections using precision measuring tools
• Troubleshoot non‑conformances and adjust tooling or machine controls as needed
• Apply knowledge of machine capabilities to optimize processes
• Record production data including setup/run times and part quantities
• Complete preventive maintenance tasks and maintain equipment performance
• Recommend tooling and fixture improvements
• Deburr, clean, and package finished parts
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment (5S standards)
• Collaborate with Quality, Engineering, and Production teams to resolve issues.

Position Summary

The WEDM Machinist II is responsible for setting up and operating Electrical Discharge Machines (EDM) to support secondary operations and manufacture complex precision components. This position requires hands‑on experience with EDM machining, a solid understanding of blueprints and GD&T, and the ability to troubleshoot and maintain quality in a production environment. The WEDM Machinist II will play a key role in supporting operational excellence through quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement.

Experience and Training Requirements:

• Minimum 4 years’ work experience, trade school, vocational education or apprenticeship required.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in EDM machining.

• Practical application of machine shop mathematics.
• Exposure to basic CAD/CAM, desirable.
• Experience in WEDM and Small Hole, desirable.

Education, Licenses and Certifications:

• High School diploma, or GED required.
• Trade school, vocational education, or 4-year apprenticeship with 3 years of work experience acceptable, in lieu of a high school diploma or GED.
• College coursework, desirable.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods
• Perform repetitive hand and wrist motions
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
• Safely use hand tools
